The Department of Health and Social Care and Skills for Care, working closely with our sector partners, have recently published voluntary guiding principles on support person-centred, and safe and effective delegation of healthcare activities to care colleagues.
A delegated healthcare activity is one which involves regulated healthcare professionals, including nurses, nursing associates or occupational therapists, delegating actions, often of a clinical nature, to paid care colleagues. These activities can include helping a person to manage their insulin administration, attending to wound care and overseeing mental health support.
Delegations of this nature have been happening for several years. The principles build on this work and can be adapted locally to complement existing best practice. Care colleagues are encouraged to review and adopt them in all eligible care settings in England.
The sessions are aimed at Adult Social Care CQC regulated Care Home and Home Care Providers. The training includes:
- How to get set up on Capacity Tracker
- What Capacity Tracker is and its general functionality
- Tips & tricks to make your service stand out

Back in 2022 The Northam Care Trust received some grant funding from Queens Platinum Jubilee fund to help us set up social groups for older people in Torridge who may have become isolated through Covid. It was a slow start initially but through social prescribers, leaflets and by word of mouth the group of older people meeting up has grown.
We now have 50 plus members who meet up twice a week to do social activities together as well as some wellbeing activities such as chair yoga. It is a free service and has become very popular.
Since our initial grant we were luckily enough to receive some additional funding from NHS South West Cost of Living Community Fund and we are hoping to gain some further grant so if anyone knows of any other grant funding available, please do let us know.
Here’s a film of our social groups in action!
