COVID-19 and Patient Transport: business as usual

As a system we are moving back to a business-as-usual model, which means that we accept that COVID is here to stay and is to be treated as any other infectious respiratory disease (as opposed to unless it is a High Consequence Infectious Diseases or HCID for which where there are specific actions needed to be taken by all parties).

For that reason, there is no longer a provision of ‘specific’ ambulances for COVID transfers only.

The current guidance is that healthcare staff are recommended to continue to wear a face mask when dealing in close proximity of patients who have acute respiratory illnesses, as covered in a letter on infection prevention and control from the National Medical Director and Deputy Chief Nursing Officer:

  • Health and care staff should continue to wear facemasks as part of personal protective equipment required for transmission-based precautions when working in COVID-19/respiratory care pathways, and when clinically caring for suspected/confirmed COVID-19 patients.
  • Health and care staff are in general not required to wear facemasks in non-clinical areas e.g. offices, social settings, unless this is their personal preference or there are specific issues raised by a risk assessment. This should also be considered in community settings
  • Patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 transferring to another care area should wear a facemask (if tolerated) to minimise the dispersal of respiratory secretions and reduce environmental contamination.

Kings coronation

Edenmore Nursing Home's countdown has begun for the King's Coronation

Edenmore Nursing Home in Ilfracombe is preparing to host its Coronation Party to celebrate the crowning of our King. Residents, who are fondly referred to as family members, will be celebrating in style with a special appearance from Edenmore’s very own King and Archbishop, along with Guardsmen.

Home Manager Gayle said, “It's wonderful to see both family and team members enjoying themselves while working together to create this momentous day for everyone”.

The team at Edenmore have been hard at work creating costumes ready for the coronation party with special Coldstream Guards uniforms handmade by team member, Teresa, ready to celebrate the joyous occasion. The creation marks the start of what’s to come for the team and family members, a party not to be missed.

Edenmore Nursing Home is a home based in Ilfracombe, North Devon. Its approach to life recognises the values, beliefs and identity of each person. Each person that may need support is unique and by understanding one’s life history, and one’s journey in life, the team at Edenmore Nursing Home create a place where everyone feels safe and never alone.
