Winter Plan now online as well as Checklist
The Devon County Council Adult Social Care Winter Plan 2022 - 23 is now on the Policy and Guidance part of the PEN website, to help providers through this challenging season.
Please remember that this year there is also a handy Winter Plan Provider Checklist as well as the full document.
National FluCare trial appeal for care home participants
FluCare is a national clinical trial designed to increase the number of care home staff having the flu vaccination, seeking participation from 70 care homes across England:
- 35 will be randomly chosen to receive the intervention
- 35 will be randomly chosen to not receive the intervention
We’ll collect data on various things from the homes including:
- Staff vaccination rates
- Staff sick days
- Aggregate resident sickness etc.

All participating homes will receive £500 to cover the costs of time spent taking part and providing information for the researchers, whether they are chosen to receive the FluCare intervention package or not.

Energy or network suppliers Free Priority Services Register - reminder!
If you care for someone who is elderly, very ill, physically or mentally disabled or relies on power for their medical equipment, who would be affected if their electricity and water supply were interrupted, you can apply to be on their energy or network supplier’s free support Priority Services Register. If, for example, a water main bursts, or a pylon comes down due to a storm and they were no longer receiving water or electricity, they can receive priority support from their utility company. You don’t have to be the bill payer to register, as their carer you can contact them on their behalf. Devon County Care Home Forum (Tuesday 29 November 2-3pm)
Please join us for the next County Care Home Forum meeting on Tuesday 29 November, 2-3pm. An open invitation to all care homes within the Devon County Council footprint to regularly meet with Devon’s Market Management Team, CCG, commissioners and other professionals to share information on key topics of interest and concern, hear about and get involved in care home commissioning work and find out more about other key national and local care home priorities.
November’s meeting will be themed around Nutrition in care homes, we are working with DCHC (Devon Care Home Collaborative) to finalise the agenda which includes, Vicky Wickes, Specialist Clinical Community Dietitian – Hydration Project, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust who will be sharing advice, guidance and resources on good nutrition and support available, as well as responding to any questions. We will also be providing an update on the Cost of Care work.
