Devon Snow Wardens
I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Councillor Stuart Hughes (Cabinet Member for Highways Management) and Meg Booth (Director of Climate Change, Environment & Transport) to provide you with a “Welcome to Winter” message and to once again thank you all for your support and availability throughout the previous winter service period.
Looking forward, should a substantial amount of snow and severe weather hit Devon during this year’s winter service period it would have a significant impact on the network, affecting local communities, vulnerable people and the economy. Without your ongoing support during this time, our emergencies services would struggle to provide an effective response to hard to reach individuals. It’s reassuring to know that Devon is supported by key individuals such as yourselves, during periods of severe weather and prolonged snow.
- Rob Schofield, NOCC Manager

Long term weather forecasts
16th – 25th Oct:
At the start of the period, clear or sunny spells are expected, interspersed with some showers that could be heavy and potentially thundery at times. These could also occasionally merge into longer spells of rain, especially in western areas. Through the rest of the period, the changeable weather is likely to persist as several bands of rain move across the country. In between these, some sunshine is possible along with occasional showers. The west is likely to see the greatest amount of rainfall, whereas the east will remain drier on average. Temperatures generally near normal throughout this period, though some chilly nights are possible. Winds are expected to be strong in association with the passing fronts, with the risk of coastal gales in the northwest
26th Oct – 9th Nov:
This period is likely to see a continuation of the changeable weather, bringing spells of rain or showers and strong winds across the UK at times, with temperatures near normal for the time of year. However, as we move into November, there is an increasing chance of more settled weather across the UK, which would bring colder conditions with mist, fog, and overnight frost.
