 The Council, like other public sector partners, is in a very challenging financial position. Ahead of the budget update paper going to our Cabinet next week (Wednesday 14 September), Jan outlines the potential savings being reviewed and reminds us to continue the conversation within our teams.

September is National Preparedness Month and we’re encouraging people to ‘be prepared, not scared’ for everyday emergencies by sharing information, advice and resources as part of ‘30 days, 30 ways’ - the UK’s preparedness and community resilience campaign.

We will be upgrading Content Manager from 5pm on Friday 9 September to 5pm on Sunday 11 September 2022. The system will be unavailable between these times.
Before 5pm on Friday 9 September you should:
- save and close all MS Office documents (Word, Excel etc) and then close Content Manager to ensure you do not lose any important data
- make local copies of documents and records/legal matters that you may need to view or work on for this weekend
- after this weekend, once you have saved any changed documents to Content Manager, please delete any local copies you have made.

On 10 September every year, we come together to raise awareness of how we can create a world where fewer people die by suicide.
This year, the theme is 'Creating Hope Through Action'.
The team at Pete’s Dragons, who provide specialist support to those affected or bereaved by suicide across the county of Devon, are hosting a webinar on Wednesday 28 September from 10am to 11am. You can book a place by emailing training@petesdragons.org.uk
We also have a wide range of materials on Inside Devon, including training for managers and employees and a list of support groups and charities in Devon.

From Wednesday 7 September, those people most vulnerable to COVID-19 have started to be invited to book in their COVID-19 autumn booster vaccine.
Those most at risk from serious illness will be called forward first, with people able to book in online or through 119 as long as it has been three months since their last dose.

Unpaid carers in Mid-Devon are currently able to access their local leisure centres for free, as part of a pilot running until Saturday 31 December 2022.
The leisure centres taking part in the pilot are:
- Culm Valley Sports Centre in Cullompton
- Exe Valley Leisure Centre in Tiverton
- Lords Meadow Leisure Centre in Crediton

For security reasons, Microsoft will remove old authentication protocols, coming into force during October.
As the team make the necessary changes to MyScomis, the service will be unavailable between Thursday 15 September between 6pm to 7pm.
Please ensure that you do not try to use MyScomis to raise a new issue/request or to update an existing issue during this period.

The government is holding a call for evidence to inform the development of the Down Syndrome Act statutory guidance for 2022. They are seeking your views on what should be included within the guidance.
This call for evidence is open to everyone. Make sure to respond before the deadline of 11:45pm on Tuesday 8 November.

Sepsis is a life threatening condition that can arise from any infection, including flu and COVID-19. It claims 11 million lives every year, including 48,000 in the UK.
Sepsis can affect anyone of any age, but it’s often treatable if caught quickly. Knowing the signs saves lives.

Over the past four months, Smarter Devon, in partnership with Public Health Devon, has been running a series of interactive seminars to help us understand all the issues we need to consider as we develop our own data ethics principles and rules.
We have learned a lot through these seminars, and we now want to bring everything together in a final conference. Join Smarter Devon at Coaver Club, County Hall on Wednesday 28 September.

Come and learn the benefits of using OneDrive (as opposed to network drives) with the Digital Change Team. The next session is on Thursday 15 September at 2.30pm.

This week is 'know your numbers week', designed to encourage people to check thier blood pressure.
If untreated, high blood pressure increases the risk of serious problems such as heart attacks and strokes.
The only way to find out if your blood pressure is high is to have your blood pressure checked, which only requires a short test available at many local pharmacies.
