Devon School Leadership Services (DSLS) CIO was formally launched in September 2020 following the successful merger of the former DAPH and DASH phase associations.

This coincided with a particularly challenging time for schools amid responding to the Covid-19 pandemic, partial school closures and expectations to maintain teaching and learning for pupils. As a result, the predominant role of DSLS during the last two years has been to provide support to its school leader members, notably with navigating the plethora of central government guidance which was often confusing or received very late in the day. DSLS represented schools at DCC meetings with senior officers and contributed towards ensuring that the local response was both timely and appropriate.

As “living with Covid-19” becomes the norm and school life returns to some semblance of normality, DSLS will continue to develop and adapt the work of the organisation going forward. This will ensure that DSLS continues to provide to its membership a valued and effective resource which is responsive to the needs of school leaders and emerging policy changes under the Schools White and SEND Green papers,

The DSLS Board of Trustees alongside the Schools Executive Committee wish to undertake a review of the services to schools to include the core work with the LA as well as its other business activities both now and in the future. Some of you may not currently engage with all aspects of our work, others will be very familiar with what is available and regularly look to DSLS to support them in their leadership role.

We are keen to hear from everybody in order that we can establish what is currently valued and effective, where we could work differently or do better and more importantly where gaps may exist in the DSLS offering or indeed other providers within the education marketplace.
