A national patient safety alert for hygiene products manufactured by Vernacare

Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been detected in hygiene products manufactured by Vernacare. Vernacare have issued a voluntary recall of all ‘in-date’ cosmetic products which include wet wipes, wash mitts, barrier cloths, bed bath washcloths and shampoo caps produced.

It is essential these wipes are not being used in any health and care settings. There are currently no known cases linked to these contaminated products, but it is being investigated.

It is crucial to ensure relevant products are removed. There is need to raise awareness among health and care professionals who might encounter potentially associated cases to inform clinical care, surveillance and public health action.
