Mick Waters and Book

Professor Mick Waters, Author & Education Consultant

Mick Waters in conversation... About Our Schools: Improving on Previous Best
The experienced educator is joined by DSLS panel members to explore essential changes needed to help today’s young people meet tomorrow’s needs. His new book (written with Tim Brighouse) “About Our Schools” presents interview evidence from 20 education ministers and around 100 others, including school leaders, teachers, parents, right through to former CEOs of Ofsted and various Multi-Academy Trusts.

In the book they assess what should happen now in terms of curriculum, assessment, teaching and school accountability and how we can keep brilliant teachers. They also consider how we can ensure schools are preparing pupils for a future changed by automation, robotics, social media and climate change.

Paul Walker, CEO, First Federation Trust - “How do you know your curriculum is effective?”

Paul will focus on considering curriculum design and measuring the impact of what is intended.

Aisha Thomas

Aisha Thomas, Director, Representation Matters
Culturally Educating - Enriching the curriculum with diversity and inclusivity

In the opening of the Why Representation Matters - 2019 Ted X Bristol talk, Aisha made the vital point
that "Until society represents everyone, the question will always be, do I belong?”

Through her session, Aisha will help us as leaders to consider our role in challenging racial inequity in education and use her pillars framework as a guide to support us in developing a culture of inclusive practice.
During what will be an interactive and immersive session, Aisha will challenge us to hold up the mirror to ourselves so that we can reflect and consider our crucial role in this work.

James McNeillie,  Regional Director South West, Ofsted

James will provide an update on the inspection framework, changes, and challenges.

Please note that if you would like to ensure that your governors are receiving the same information from Ofsted, James will also be speaking to governors at a seminar organised by DAG at 6pm on Wednesday 29 June

This free evening seminar (held virtually) will update governors, trustees and clerks on the inspection framework, changes and challenges.

Please email dagclerk@gmail.com to book a place as soon as possible. This seminar is free to attend for all governors, trustees, clerks and governance professionals in the Devon LA area.
