We are expecting a heatwave this weekend and this issue features a link to the Met Office Health Heat Alert website. While we hope everyone enjoys the sun, we cannot underestimate the importance of taking the right precautions to ensure those we care for and all hard working staff stay safe in the heat.
We do our best to keep the content and structure of our PEN website up-to-date in these fast-changing times and your suggestions on how to improve the website are always welcome.

Calling all Care Homes! New County Care Home Forum
We are pleased to announce the launch of a new Devon County Care Home Forum starting on Tuesday 28 June, 2-3pm. This is an open invitation to all care homes within the Devon County Council footprint to regularly meet with Devon’s Market Management Team, NHS Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), commissioners and other professionals to share information on key topics of interest and concern, hear about and get involved in care home commissioning work and find out more about other key national and local care home priorities.
The first agenda item we have agreed is Hospital Discharge, with Sally Robins, NHS Devon's Quality Improvement Turnaround Director, telling us more about the hospital discharge work she is leading on.
We will be working with Devon Care Home Collaborative (DCHC) to finalise the agenda.
To join the first meeting click on this link and we look forward to seeing you all there.
Future meeting dates will be confirmed soon and shared in the PEN newsletter and on the PEN website.
LoveCare - DHSC national visit to Devon
During the week of 27 June 10 Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) will visit Devon to look at the LoveCare programme and the wider Integrated Care System for Devon (ICSD), including visits to relevant providers. A number of key line enquiries will be pursued including:
- Do we have a shared understanding of the issues?
- Does national policy and local approaches align?
- What’s working well. What isn’t but could.
- Can we evidence the measure the impact of our work?
- Are we looking far enough into the future?
- What investment do we have now, tomorrow or where are the gaps?
- How can we extract learning and become an exemplar for others?
This work builds on the successful Appreciative Enquiry already undertaken and we are grateful for provider participation in our campaign to raise a profile of adult social care provision including workforce capacity. We will keep you posted on LoveCare and system progress after this high profile visit.
