Supermarket vouchers worth £570,000 have been sent to the families of 19,000 children in Devon to help them buy food over the upcoming Easter holidays.
It’s thanks to the government’s one-off household support fund, which was given to councils to distribute. Over the last year, we’ve invested Devon’s £4.7 million share in providing nearly 140,000 supermarket vouchers for families who qualify for free school meals; so their children don’t go hungry over the school holidays.
If your family received holiday vouchers, we urge you to use them as soon as possible, before they expire.
If your family expected to receive a voucher but didn't, please visit our website for support. You can also find an application for vouchers if your circumstances have changed.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak MP, recently announced that the government intends to continue its Household Support Fund after April, and we are waiting for further details.
Other support is also available, including our free Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) scheme, which eligible families can take part in over the Easter holidays and summer break. If you want to find out more, please visit the HAF section of our website.
Does your child receive a direct payment from Devon County Council's Disabled Children’s Service?
Our Disabled Children’s Service is currently working to transform and improve the short break offer for disabled children and their families.
We’re creating a focus group of parents/carers to help us to improve our direct payments system. If your child receives a direct payment from Devon County Council’s Disabled Children’s Service, we’d like to hear from you.
The first session will take place on Thursday 28 April from 10.00am to 2.00pm. The session will be held at the Parent Carer Forum Devon office in Heathfield, Newton Abbot, with lunch and refreshments provided.
Since Tuesday 5 April all children aged five and over are eligible to have the COVID-19 vaccination.
They will not be given out to this age group inside of schools, however NHS Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are encouraging parents or carers to get their children vaccinated.
Having the COVID-19 vaccine reduces the likelihood of further disruption to education and reduces the risk of developing Long COVID.
You can register your child for a vaccine by calling 119 or visiting a vaccine centre during the Easter break.
