Marking Holocaust Memorial Day – Thursday 27 January 2022

The 27th January every year stands out as an important day, reminding us of the unparalleled horrors of the World War II holocaust, as well as subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

This year’s theme is One Day, in the hope that there may be One Day in the future where genocide doesn’t exist. We learn more about the past, we empathise with others today, and we take action for a better future.

Please visit Resources for schools plus Holocaust Education Trust and G2G

Special features for 2022:

  • Commemoration event - Exeter Cathedral - Thursday 27 January 1.00pm - 1.30pm
  • Video Talks for use in lessons or assemblies, featuring Jeremy Roberts (Chair of Devon and Torbay SACREs) talking about the danger of ‘othering’, plus input from students at Sidmouth College, giving their reflections on the holocaust, including their reflections on a visit to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam.

Adolescent Safety Framework (ASF) - Safer Me

The Adolescent Safety Framework (ASF) is a pioneering approach to managing contextual risk which will support children, young people, families and professionals from across the partnerships. These risks are often found outside of the family environment and place young people at risk or compromise their safety. This includes risks caused by peer groups, exploitation, locations and persons of concern outside the family.

A recommended online training module for schools can be found below and other resources available on the Devon Children and Families Partnership website.

Governor and Trustee Devon Education Forum (DEF) vacancies

Schools forums play a significant role in influencing and shaping local education funding. They provide a collaborative and consultative platform for strategic discussion and contribute to local decision making. Schools forums are an important contact point between the local authority and education providers so that through debate, discussion, and challenge, secure financial strategic planning and an equitable distribution of finance is achieved for all pupils within the local authority.

The Devon Association of Governance (DAG) has nine members sitting on the Devon forum and holds the position of chair and vice chair. DAG is looking for new members to join DEF and would be delighted to hear from governors and trustees who would consider taking on this additional voluntary role. Meetings are held four times a year on a Wednesday morning and have been held remotely and in person at County Hall in Exeter.

If any of your board may be interested please ask them to contact Amanda Blewett as soon as possible on info@dagdevon.uk for more information.

Further details of DAG’s involvement with the Devon Education Forum can be seen on the DAG website on the Devon Education Forum page under ‘What we do’.
