Hannah Woodhouse | Regional Schools Commissioner for SW England
Hannah gave an overview of the Devon picture and priorities, and, in line with recent political announcements, supported the benefits of joining a MAT with signposting to useful information for school leaders and Governing Boards - download the presentation here.

Andrew Brent | Senior Policy Officer, School Admissions Team, DCC
An Admissions Policy update which included information on children from overseas, flexi-schooling, Jubilee Bank Holiday 2022, service Pupil Premium, annual consultation, a new Admissions Code and Fair Access - download the presentation here.
Devon's In-Year Fair Access Protocol 2021 - survey for schools on a revised Fair Access Protocol (closes 6 August 2021).
Admissions and the Service Pupil Premium - survey for schools on whether they would support priority in their admission arrangements for children who are eligible for the service Pupil premium.
Vivien Lines | Interim Head of Service, Children’s Social Care, DCC
A verbal update was given (no PPT) of what is happening in Devon in Children's Social Care, the challenges being faced and a programme of improvements.
Lee Elliot-Major OBE | Professor of Social Mobility, University of Exeter
Lee Elliot Major is Britain’s first Professor of Social Mobility, appointed by the University of Exeter to be a global leader in the field. His work is dedicated to improving the prospects of disadvantaged children and young people.
He has written several award-winning books about education and social mobility, including Social Mobility and Its Enemies. His book What Works? provides evidence-informed tips for teachers to improve learning and follows on from his work helping to produce the EEF teaching and learning toolkit, used by 100,000s of teachers.
During the presentation, Lee talked about the Social Mobility & Covid Inequalities, emerging policy issues and what should schools focus on - download Lee's presentation 'Levelling up through education in the post-pandemic era'.
Rachel Shaw, Chair of the Schools Executive Committee (SEC) reflected on the first year since the launch of Devon Schools Leadership CIO and outlined the priorities for 2021/22, followed by a summary of the DSLS aHead Service from Melanie Smallwood (Service Lead).
