Supporting health and social care providers in Devon

28 June 2021

Please note that the final deadline to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme is midnight on Wednesday 30 June 2021. We are therefore reminding you to encourage and support any citizen of EU (or EEA countries or Switzerland) who works in or uses our services to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to ensure they maintain their rights to live, work, study and access public services, benefits and pensions in the UK.

Over 5.6 million people have now applied (including over 22,000 resident in Devon) and the majority of those have been granted settled status. However, only 2% of applicants have been from people aged over 65 and although the government has funded additional support to the vulnerable they remain concerned some may have missed out.

Consequently late applications are being permitted in certain circumstances, details of which can be found on p.27-30 of the caseworker guidance. Late applicants follow the same process as previously but additionally need to explain why they missed the deadline. Reasonable grounds include having care and support needs, a serious medical condition, being impacted by the pandemic or lacking mental capacity.

There is a range of information about the EU Settlement Scheme on the PEN website.

There are also several organisations which offer additional and specialist advice in this area, including:
