Primary schools children

Big rise in first preferences for Devon primaries

It's National Offer Day today (Friday 16 April) when children due to start primary school in September find out where they will be going.

Almost all families in Devon have been offered a place at one of their three preferred schools, which is excellent news.

Our admissions team is on hand to respond to any enquiries via our education helpline on 0345 155 1019.

We are really looking forward to welcoming our new primary school children starting in September.

Don't forget to claim your free supermarket vouchers

Claim your free supermarket vouchers before they expire

Families of more than 16,000 pupils in Devon currently receiving free school meals have automatically been sent supermarket vouchers as part of a multi-million pound drive we've organised to combat holiday hunger.

The vouchers, worth £15 per week for each child, can be redeemed in major supermarkets across Devon.

Some vouchers from February half term and the Easter holiday remain unspent, so we are urging families to check their vouchers and redeem them as soon as possible before they expire.

Please get in touch with our free school meals team if you were expecting to receive a voucher but didn’t. Email freeschoolmeals@devon.gov.uk or call 0345 155 1019.

If you didn’t previously qualify for free school meals but your income has recently reduced or stopped, please apply online through our website to check if you are eligible for this support as soon as possible.

COVID-19 rapid test

Reminder to take COVID-19 tests before returning to school or college next week

Secondary school pupils and college students are being reminded to take their lateral flow device (LFD) COVID-19 tests before returning to the classroom next week.

This twice weekly testing, which is available to everyone without COVID-19 symptoms, helps identify positive cases that would otherwise have gone undetected.

For schools and colleges this means reducing the likelihood of positive cases spreading and leading to whole class bubbles having to isolate, which disrupts face-to-face teaching.

It's important to ensure the rapid COVID-19 tests are taken as close to the start of the summer term as possible to minimise the risk of the virus being brought in to school or college and spreading when everyone goes back next week.
