The impact of Covid 19

Summary of information and useful statistics

Devon SLS has been asked to share the latest Worthless? campaign information.

Next week school leaders from across the country will be encouraged to sign and send a copy of the draft letter to MP's (see link below) in a coordinated response to raise awareness and concerns around the support and leadership for schools since the pandemic began.

It is the intention that the date and timing of the letter to MP's and appendix will be a fully co-ordinated national campaign to achieve maximum impact which is likely to be early next week, therefore please do not send the attachments at this stage.

An editable word version of each document will be sent to you to personalise and sign prior to sending to your local MP alongside local and national media coverage.

View the .pdf versions of the letter to MPs and appendix below:

Continuing impact of Covid-19 on school and education funding

In October, the f40 group wrote a second letter to the DfE funding team to highlight their concerns around the impact of Covid-19 on school and education budgets, and where they believed additional financial support was required. Read the letter from James McInnes, Chairman, f40.

As a result, f40 representatives were invited to meet with Tom Goldman, Deputy Director of the DfE’s Funding Policy Unit, along with a member of the DfE’s team dealing specifically with policy around costs to schools associated with Covid-19. Concerns were discussed in more detail and suggestions made for where additional funding and support should be targeted.

During the meeting, the need for greater school funding in general was also stressed, as well as fairness of funding, major concerns around SEND and the growing deficit budgets. The meeting was very constructive and useful and with open dialogue; the funding unit has also asked f40 to provide more specific information relating to the impact of Covid on schools, which will be shared with them in the weeks ahead.

Reminder - Devon SLS Request for Covid-19 adverse impact on school budgets

Extension to deadline - now 5.00pm Friday 6 November 2020

On 21 October, we wrote to Devon schools to advise that Devon SLS has received a request from the Local Authority to provide tangible examples of the adverse impact of Covid-19 on Devon school budgets so we can continue to lobby government and the DfE via local channels.

We would therefore be grateful if you, or your business/finance manager would provide a costed breakdown by 5.00pm on Friday 6 November 2020 - visit this link for more details and to download the spreadsheet.
