Devon Norse continues to follow the updates from both Public Health England and the Government regarding the Covid 19 virus. We have detailed contingency plans in place but due to the situation continually changing, we are reviewing these on a daily basis:-
Staff
We have advised and continue to advise our staff to follow public health guidelines in relation to Covid-19. We have instructed our staff to keep travel to a minimum where possible and our area managers will contact you by phone or e-mail where this is possible.
Staff Shortages
In the event of our staff following guidelines to self-isolate, leading to shortages we will where possible still supply a service to you. In terms of catering this may not be the fully advertised menu, or may be prepared at another site and transported in.
Within our cleaning division, we will be attempting to cover all absences. We do, however, anticipate that as the virus spreads this will become more difficult and will require staff to cover areas and clean priority areas when colleagues are absent.
School Closures
In the event of school closures, we request you confirm that your school will be open at lunchtime to provide a lunch service for children eligible for FSM and we will liaise with school management on a case-by-case basis.
Suppliers
We are working closely with all main suppliers and are benefiting from a number of these being local producers. They have informed us of their own continuity plans and at this stage they are able to supply all food required for our menus.
Our cleaning material suppliers have also confirmed that they are able to supply the majority of our requirements but there are delays for items such as sanitiser and hand towels due to the increased demand.
Catering Specifics
Whilst the virus does not appear to be spread via food we are taking the additional precautions as follows:-
- During the course of the outbreak and until further notice no foods should be on display and uncovered
- We will remove any foods that are self-served by customers or children such as salad bars;
- Where we operate a “family style service” within schools these will cease and all meals will be served to the plate;
- We are arranging for all schools where there is no kitchen facility (Dining centres) to hold an emergency meal. This will be in the form of ambient products that require minimal preparation and can if necessary be served cold;
- We are arranging for production kitchens to have 3 days’ worth of food that can be simply prepared in the event of key staff absence.
Cleaning Specifics
As part of the normal cleaning routine we have advised staff to particularly concentrate on touch points (door handles).
As part of government advice we are advised not to carry out any deep cleans following either a assumed or confirmed case of the virus. In the circumstances of a confirmed case Public Health England will contact the site and confirm what precautions and actions need to be taken.
