                                                                                                                     January 2020

Welcome

Welcome to the SEND Improvement Board Newsletter for January.

This issue includes an update on the Short Breaks and Personalised Budgets Workshops, Action for Children's work with Children Centres, the new SEND e-learning training and requesting services from the Preparing for Adulthood team.

Requesting Services from the Preparing for Adulthood Team

The Preparing for Adulthood Team engages with young people, families and carers to empower young people to build on opportunities of adulthood, becoming as independent, self-reliant and confident as possible.

You don’t automatically get support from the Preparing for Adulthood Team, so if you are a young person between the age of 12-18, their parent / carer or a professional seeking support from the Preparing for Adulthood team, please complete our web referral form.

If you are a professional completing this on behalf of the young person and their family, please ensure you obtained consent first!

The referral form to access the Preparing for Adulthood Team is available on the SEND Local Offer. Alternatively call 01392 381291 or email preparingforadulthoodsecure-mailbox@devon.gov.uk for an informal chat.

Devon SEND e - learning module one training

This short e-learning module is intended for all new and existing staff working with children, young people and families in Devon.  We hope that this training will help all staff to better understand the SEN Code of Practice, the Devon Local Offer and provide links to relevant policy documentation for reference. Please encourage all staff members to complete the module (which takes around 15 minutes).  This is really important to develop and support consistency in how we all understand SEND across Devon. The link to the training has been sent directly to organisations.

Short Breaks Workshops

The Short Breaks Co - Design are offering a number of different workshops for parent and carers taking place across Devon throughout January 2020 where together parents and professionals can think about how to better support families of disabled children and young people. For more information please click here for the workshop dates and here is the link to the website.

Improving SEND Personalised Budgets / Direct Payment Workshop

Thank you to those who attended the workshop. For those of you who were not able to attend the workshop, a PowerPoint presentation as well as a short film of the day which will show what we got up to, the discussions and the progress we made in terms of Personalised Budgets and Direct Payments will be available. These resources will be sent out through social media, the Parent Carer Forum and the SEND Improvement Board newsletter.

Action for Children: "One Devon" approach for Children's Centres

Action for Children are now providing a “One Devon” approach for Childrens Centres, offering a consistent experience for children and families across Devon. The teams have been delivering Devon’s first Early Help Targeted Support for Children between the ages of 0 – 8 years.

We have been working collaboratively with community partners and parents and found sustainable solutions that have enabled many universal services to continue to provide much needed support to families. Across Devon, our teams have worked immensely hard reviewing all aspects of our services to ensure that all families, regardless of where they live, can access the right services at the right time and is of the highest quality.
