With just two weeks to go, final preparations are well underway for the forthcoming DAPH Annual School Leadership Conference and we wanted to let you know of a couple of changes to the Day 1 keynotes (Thursday 10 October) ahead of the event.

Regrettably Martin Daubney and Natasha Devon, both booked as Day 1 keynote speakers, have had to withdraw from the conference. Martin has been successfully elected as an MEP and Natasha has contractual commitments to World Mental Health Day and for these reasons they can no longer attend.

However, we have been working hard to revise the Day 1 programme and are delighted to announce the following keynote speakers for this year's event:

Tanya Byron

Day 1 Thursday 10 October 2019 10.30am - 12.00pm

Professor Tanya Byron

Many of you will know of Tanya and her profile as a practitioner Clinical Psychologist specialising in working with children and adolescents not to mention roles as national policy influencer, author of several books and regular broadcaster on TV and other platforms. Her session will include the neurological science behind brain development linked to the skills of critical thinking, healthy stress coping mechanisms and emotional literacy and strategies to support young people.

Sandy Newbigging V1

Day 1  Thursday 10 October 2019  1.30pm - 2.45pm

Sandy Newbigging is an expert in the mind-based causes of physical, emotional and life issues. He is a meditation teacher, monk, mentor, multi-bestselling author, creator of Calmology and the principal trainer at the Calm Academy.

Jaz Ampaw-Farr

Day 2  Friday 11 October 2019  9.15am - 10.45am

Jaz Ampaw-Farr authenticity never fails to engage and enrol an audience. Her incredible story of overcoming neglect, violence and rape as a child, focuses on how to leverage a sense of purpose in ourselves to embed ambitious resilience in others. With humility, passion and humour, Jaz signposts the transformative power of seemingly insignificant human interaction and provokes the belief that we all have the capacity to make a difference.

Hywel Roberts

Day 2  Friday 11 October 2019  11.30am - 1.00pm

Hywel Roberts  has been a teacher for over twenty-five years. His reputation has grown hugely since he stepped out of the full-time classroom. He has found an incredible and innovative niche in the world of model teaching contributing to and advising curriculum designers and innovators from Barnsley to Brussels, from Cairo to Cleethorpes. Hywel is as at home in front of hundreds of Headteachers on the conference circuit as he is when working with EAL children on the carpets of their classrooms. Hywel contributes to the national conversation around education at school and university level. He is an experienced teacher in Special, Primary and Secondary settings, nationally and internationally.
