Streetlight plan will cut CO2 by '8,000 cars' a year
Annual greenhouse emissions will be reduced in Devon by the equivalent to taking 8,000 cars off the road within three years.
Devon County Council has 79,000 street-lights - and work to convert them all to low energy LEDs began in 2012.
This work will be complete by 2022, and when combined with the introduction of part-time lighting, 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide will be prevented from entering the atmosphere each year.
This will result in the carbon emissions produced by Devon County Council being cut by 36 per cent, exceeding the IPCC’s recommendations. Read the full story on Devon County Council's Newscentre.
