Timeliness of Education Health and Care Plans is Improving

The timeliness of Education Health and Care Plans is a major part of the post Ofsted action included in the Written Statement of Action.

Current data shows that timeliness is improving; reducing the delays in assessments. 49% of plans issued in June were on time. This is still below where we want to be in the future, but there is considerable effort being put in to moving this forward.

Raising the Flag for Champions for Change

Matt1

One of our Champions for Change took the message that young people’s voices should be heard across Dartmoor last month. Matt took part in the Jubilee challenge with Bidwell Brook School and carried the Champions for Change flag all the way.  Matt said “This entire group and the work we’ve done is one step closer to our goal of spreading our ideas of Listen, Hear and Understand across the world!”

Devon's Parent Carer Forum Development

We intend Devon’s Parent Carer Forum to become a strong partner, which helps us make sure that the services in Devon meet the needs of children & their families. Devon Parent Carers’ Voice is a charity which runs events to support parent carer participation in Devon. On 18th June 2019, parents joined the Chair of Devon Parent Carers’ Voice and associates from Contact to discuss how to develop a Parent Carer Forum. Devon Communities Together and DIAS attended to explain how they could support the forum to attract new parents, train parent carers and support participation. More news coming soon!

The Preparing for Adulthood Workstream

This month, the preparing for adulthood workstream have been working to understand our systems across health, finance, social care and education. By understand our systems, we will make improvements that aims to reduce the ‘cliff edge’ parents and young people tell us they feel when they transition. With all services working together we will identify ways to work differently and support young people approaching adulthood in a timely manner.

Don’t forget to complete the referral form to access the Preparing for Adulthood Team on the Local Offer. Alternatively call 01392 381291 or email preparingforadulthoodsecure-mailbox@devon.gov.uk for an informal chat
