Devon charts a course towards carbon neutrality

A Citizen's Assembly will be formed to represent the views of residents on Devon’s journey to become a carbon neutral county.

DCC has pledged £250,000 towards developing a Devon Carbon Plan, a ‘road map’ to reduce carbon emissions.

Twenty organisations including business groups, emergency services and councils form the Devon Climate Emergency Response Group (DCERG).

The group is chaired by Devon County Council's Chief Executive Dr Phil Norrey, and they are working together to draw up the plan. The DCERG have also agreed the underlying principles of the Devon Climate Declaration, which enshrines a list of commitments signatories will adhere to.

Part of the plan includes the formation of a ‘citizens assembly’ to ensure Devon’s residents have a voice in the process. Read more...
