Welcome to the latest Smokefree Devon Alliance newsletter.
As always please share any information that you would like to see included in future editions.
As 2018 draws to a close the next few weeks provide a fantastic opportunity for us to encourage smokers in Devon to quit the habit in 2019.
We can all help to encourage Devon smokers to make quitting their new years resolution. As we all know the most successful attempts to quit smoking are the ones that are planned and when people get the right support.
OneYou will be running their Health Harms campaign so please use this national campaign to push the local stop smoking services. Campaign resources can be ordered now from Public Health England.
The latest Smokefree Devon Alliance Steering Group meeting was held on 5th November.
This was the first meeting since the new Alliance Strategy and Action Plan were launched earlier in the year. During the meeting we heard from a range of partners who have been working towards actions within Priority 1 of the Action Plan: Protecting Children and young people from tobacco and encourage smokefree pregnancies. We heard from partners including Public Health, Trading Standards and Children's Centre and Early Years about the fantastic efforts they are making to tackle tobacco and drive down smoking prevalence in Devon. Smokingfree Alliance members can see all progress that has been made by viewing the updated online Action Plan.
The next meeting will be held at County Hall, Devon County Council on Monday 4th March 2019. We would like to hear from partners who are working on Action Plan Priority area 2.
The Smokefree Devon website.has had an overhaul. The general look and feel has been refreshed and information has been updated to ensure it is helpful and accessible to all users.
Alliance members will notice that the homepage now consists of two options: 'Get support to quit smoking' - which takes users to Devon's health and wellbeing service (One Small Step); and 'Information for professionals' - where users can find a wealth of information including details about training, contract information and latest research, as well as all the latest updates from the Smokefree Devon Alliance. Please send any suggestions of content you would like to see to andrew.priest@devon.gov.uk
