Happy 70th Birthday
to the NHS and to social care!
Proud to Care Devon met
representatives from the Ministry of Justice yesterday to share our learning on
Proud to Care, along with our Proud to Care SW partners and 2 Devon
providers. The representatives from the Ministry of Justice are
developing a national social care recruitment campaign, on behalf of the
Department of Health and Social Care. Caroline
Dinenage, Minister of State for Care has announced that the new campaign
will be launched in the autumn to raise the image and the profile of the
sector. This national campaign aims to show the rich variety of careers
of adult social care and to attract the right people with right values.
It’s been an exciting month
with the well-attended, high profile launch of Proud to Care in Plymouth.
Sally-Ann Turner, Proud to Care Devon
A massive well done to everyone in Plymouth at the launch on 26 June including Livewell Southwest, Plymouth City Council, University Hospitals Plymouth and Scott College and many social care providers.
Over 70 people attended on the day and over 40 of those have already signed up as Proud to Care Ambassadors,
including care workers, nurses,
registered managers and trainee nursing associates!
Ambassadors, Judi Armstrong (Occupational Therapist),
Francesa Fletcher (Care home manager), Jack Whitfield (Autism Assemble) and
Karen Grimshaw (Nurse Consultant for older people) spoke passionately about
their career stories and why they are proud to care.

Proud to Care Devon has been
successful in a funding bid to develop Proud to Care Ambassador’s involvement
in offering workplace career activities, including guided visits, shadowing and
work placements. We are planning to trial this initially with a small
number of Proud to Care Ambassadors in private and voluntary care
organisations, NHS Trusts, and primary care.
We are keen to raise the profile of Proud to Care whenever possible and our followers on social media have been steadily increasing. Please could I encourage all Ambassadors to consider promoting events they are attending.
Social media links are at the bottom of this newsletter, good luck!
