DASH Summer Conference & AGM 2018 | Friday 29 June 2018
Meeting with MPs
Cabinet Member for schools, James McInnes, and Dawn Stabb,
Head of Education and Learning visited Westminster last week to
brief the county’s MPs on the latest situation together with Rob Haring (DASH) and Paul Walker (DAPH) . The key message was to let MPs know
that, just because the National Funding Formula has been introduced,
schools in the county still lag far behind many other areas and our High Needs
Budget is also under considerable pressure. Further updates from this
meeting will follow.

Feedback from SOCA meeting 9 January
2018
Compliance with the School Admissions Code:
- Priority
for children of “Other Faiths” – schools need to show that the criteria
for eligibility are equitable to Christian faiths and are achievable
locally: can children of other faiths satisfy attendance criteria?
- Nursery
application : schools need to demonstrate that summer born children have
legitimate and realistic opportunity to get into school; may need to
reconsider having nursery as a priority
More work to be done
prior to determination of admissions:
- In-year
application forms : schools with determined arrangements to include their
own application forms will be subject to compliance review
- Admission
arrangements and school websites - All schools to check they have all of
their admissions policies on their websites; copies as understood by the
LA are held in individual school Sharepoint folders at http://devon.cc/schoolpolicy
Admission of children
in care:
Aim is to accelerate admission of children in
care/formerly in care to support virtual school. Expectation is that only rare
exceptions when a child in care should not be admitted to a school

Chelsea's Choice Theatre Production
The Safer Devon Partnership has given a grant to Babcock LDP to
rollout a further nine performances of ‘Chelsea’s Choice’, the highly
successful theatre production which explores the dangers of Child Sexual

A condition of the grant is that those schools which either host
or attend a performance must agree to deliver a series of three sessions to
pupils, which complement the performance. Schools must confirm when these
sessions have been delivered as Babcock LDP is required to report back to the
Safer Devon Partnership. The teaching resources for these sessions can be found
on the Alter
Ego website or view/download via this L I N K
See also the Information Sheet for Venues
We are seeking schools willing to host either two morning sessions
or one afternoon session (you will be asked to invite other local schools if
you have sufficient room). The dates that have been booked with Alter Ego are
as follows:
-
Monday 5th March
- Tuesday 6th March
- Wednesday 7th March
The performance will last for 45 minutes with a post-show talk
lasting 15 minutes.
