Further
developments on Funding Challenges in
Devon Schools
Local MPs respond to DAPH/DASH
concerns over funding challenges in Devon Schools
Following on from the initial DASH Update communication on 8 December
2016, which urged schools to join the Devon campaign and raise awareness of the
funding challenges, a big thank you to everyone who has since written to their
local MP and/or Councillor. A library of letters sent by schools and also MP
responses are available to view on the DAPH website homepage and we will keep you
updated as the campaign progresses.
Two meetings with MPs
have been scheduled; Anne-Marie Morris MP (Newton Abbot) and Dr Sarah Wollaston
MP (Totnes) are meeting at one of their constituency schools during January and
other area meetings are being planned.
A reminder for schools
to also send a copy of their letter to the DAPH office at daph@devon.gov.uk
so that a central library of all letters written by Devon Schools can be
compiled. Thank you.

At a meeting of Schools
Finance Group (SFG) held on 4 January 2017, it was agreed to convene a
meeting of LA officers and phase association representatives to review detail
of the proposals outlined in the DfE consultation with a view to compiling a
Devon response. This will be made available to schools to use as guidance for
individual responses, and we plan to share this with you as soon as possible
and hopefully prior to the Feburary half term break.

Kayleigh’s Love Story - online grooming film available online
Leicestershire Police have made a film about the case of 15-year-old schoolgirl Kayleigh Haywood. Kayleigh was groomed online in November 2015 and 13 days later was raped and murdered by her groomer’s next door neighbour.
All criminal proceedings in this case concluded in June 2016, since which time the film has been shown in tightly-controlled screenings to partners and colleagues in the safeguarding arena, both locally and nationally.
In September 2016 a major programme began, screening the film to all children aged (secondary school) 11 and above, both in state and independent schools, to those taught from home and those children in alternative provision. To date, the film has been shown to more than 35,000 children in groups of no more than 30 at a time.
The full version of
the film, along with a signed version, an audio-described version and versions
of the film translated into five languages - Polish, Hindi, Guajarati, Urdu and
Punjabi – will be available to the public on Leicestershire Police’s YouTube
channel https://www.youtube.com/user/leicspolice
