Funding Challenges in Devon Schools
Further to the meeting and actions agreed at the Devon Education Forum (DEF) Task & Finish on 21 Nov (see DASH Update newsletter
dated 24.11.16), the Local Authority have now provided us with some
facts and figures to support the Devon context which can be used in a
letter from all schools to local MPs and County Councillors.
DAPH
and DASH have written jointly as phase associations on behalf of
primary and secondary schools collectively, however in order to add
weight and bring about change we are now asking all schools to write
individually to their own local MP and Councillors. Ideally letters need
to be sent for receipt prior to the parliamentary Christmas recess on
16 December which coincides with the end of term.

ACTION REQUIRED BY TUESDAY 13 DECEMBER 2016
- Schools
are asked to tailor the template letter to include facts and figures
(highlighted in the blue sections) based upon the context of their own
budget, supported by specific examples and evidence that the present
funding challenges will mean. Send the letter via email directly to
your local MP and post a copy to both the parliamentary address
'House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA' and also the local constituency
address where available (see above 'Contact details'). Also send a copy to your local councillor.
Please note schools should not make any other amendments to the information contained within the Devon context sections 1-4.
-
Please email a copy of your letters to the DAPH office
at daph@devon.gov.uk so that a central library of all
letters written by Devon Schools can be compiled.
- DASH would encourage schools to ask parents to write to
their local councillors using this letter as a template.
This
request is part of a Devon wide campaign supported by media coverage to
raise the profile of the funding crisis in Devon schools.
We strongly urge you to support and engage in this collective campaign and will keep
you updated as to further developments.
Thank you.
