Doing our bit in Government resettlement programmes

Devon is doing its bit to help resettle Syrian families and unaccompanied children seeking asylum, according to a report this week. The Council has a coordinating role in a partnership of local authorities, including Devon’s City and District Councils, Police, the NHS, and voluntary and community sector partners, in responding to the Government’s Syrian Vulnerable Person Resettlement Programme.  Find our more.


Council calls for more carers for young people in care

Fostering

The latest Government statistics show a rise in the number of older children coming into the care of local authorities.  The largest grouping are children aged 10 to 15, followed by those aged 16 and over.  It's a national trend, but it's one that's prompted Devon County Council to urgently recruit more foster carers for older children, including specialist DYPAS (Devon’s Young People Accommodation Service) carers.  Find out more.


Secondary school admissions round now open

School

95 per cent of parents are getting their first choices for primary and secondary school places for their children, despite increasing pupil numbers. The admissions round for moving to secondary schools is already open for the 2017-18, and the deadline for applications is the end of this month.  The primary school admission round opens next month, deadiine in January.  Find out more.
