My Cabinet colleagues and I have agreed our updated Council Plan which sets out the future direction of the council and what we’ll all be working to achieve on behalf of our residents over the next two years and beyond. We hope to fully approve the plan with Full Council at the AGM on 15 May.
We all know that Derbyshire is a fantastic place to live, work and visit, and working with you and our partners, our aim is to protect and nurture all the things we love about our county while striving to make life even better for all.
At the heart of our updated plan is ensuring we provide maximum value for money for the council tax our residents pay by delivering the most efficient and effective services we can.
You’ll know we have a lot less money to spend – we’ve had to reduce our spending by a third since 2010 and we’ve still got substantial savings to find. This isn’t stopping us from being ambitious for Derbyshire although success will be dependent on us working as a team with our communities.
Over the next two years we want to work with our employees and local communities to put energy and resources into areas that really make a difference to life in Derbyshire.
You can find out more about our proposals on our website.
Our plans are ambitious, enterprising, strong and fair and I look forward to working together with you to achieve them.
Kind regards
Barry

We’ve extended the deadline for our employee survey. Please make sure you have your say about how you feel you are supported to do your job.
The survey now closes on Monday 6 May and you can find it on our website.
Would you know what to do if a colleague needed first aid while you were at work?
All workplaces have to have a first aid box and someone to take charge in an emergency situation.
At some of our larger sites, including County Hall, there are also defibrillators and trained first aiders.
If you work at County Hall there’s more information on Dnet. If you are based elsewhere there should be information about first aid on notice boards, or your manager should know what the arrangements are.
For more information, or if you would like to volunteer to be a first aider, please either talk to your manager or Sandy McKay, occupational health on 01629 536943.

We’re inviting our current apprentices to the next apprenticeship forum.
The forum is a great place to talk to other apprentices, find out about other roles within the council and how to make the best of the training you do alongside your apprenticeship.
The next forum is on Monday 10 June at County Hall from 9.30am until 4pm.
Our Cabinet Member for Council Services, Councillor Angelique Foster will talk to apprentices on the day about ‘A day in the life of a councillor”.
There will also be a group of apprentices talking about their jobs, there will be information about learning disabilities and our Adult Community Education service will talk about how to make the most of off-the-job training.
You’ll need to book a place on the forum and you’ll need your line manager’s approval before you do this. You can book by completing the correct application form for your department, which you can find on Dnet.
