Message from our Chief Executive, Ian Stephenson

Ian Stephenson

I want to talk about how important it is to keep the county council’s data safe by using a secure password. Cyber security is a growing threat to all organisations as hacking techniques become more and more sophisticated.

We regularly run password-cracking software which identifies weak passwords. Some employees’ passwords are still failing the test and are being cracked.

The last time the software was run, 1,468 employees' passwords failed the test and many of these employees had failed three times in a row.

Employees who regularly fail these tests will be sent a letter from Judith Greenhalgh, our Strategic Director of Corporate Resources, asking them to read the password policy and create a secure password.

Weak passwords increase the likelihood of hackers getting into our IT systems and disabling them or stealing sensitive and valuable information.

Checks are ongoing so it’s important that you keep up to date with our password policy as guidelines can change so we can keep one step ahead of the hackers.

You can find out more about passwords and data security on the Data Demon section of our website.

It’s everyone’s role to keep information safe and secure.

Kind regards

Ian

Change lives during Foster Care Fortnight

Fostering fortnight

We need foster carers all year round but we’ll be shining a spotlight on recruitment during Foster Care Fortnight which runs from May 8 to 21.

Many of our employees who work with children or in caring roles already foster for us, but you don’t need any special qualifications or skills to become part of the team.

We welcome foster carers aged over 21 from all walks of life – single, married, straight, gay or trans, from any ethnic origin, working or not, renting or homeowners.

If you have a spare room and are interested in fostering, our fostering team would love to hear from you. We offer weekly payments, allowances and full training and support.

For more information or to find a ‘Talk Fostering’ event near you visit our website
