The Government announced yesterday (Thursday 29 October) that the local government reorganisation options in Derbyshire are being reappraised, with a revised timetable and a later vesting day.
This will mean that elections for the new unitary authority or authorities will take place in 2028 with vesting day taking place in 2029. Meanwhile, the Government will look at the initial proposals submitted by councils and reappraise which option is the best fit for Derbyshire.
Are you celebrating Halloween tomorrow? Our trading standards team has some advice if you are.
Halloween is a fun and exciting time for youngsters and our trading standards team is urging parents and carers to take care when buying fancy dress costumes for their children.
🦇Buy from a reputable shop or website. 🦇Cheap costumes may not meet UK safety standards. 🦇Look for a costume with a UKCA or CE mark 🦇Look for a label that says: “This garment has undergone additional safety testing for flammability” 🦇Remind children to stay well away from naked flames and other heat sources.
👻And if you buy light-up toys or string lights, be aware they might contain button batteries that children can get to easily. If your child swallows a button battery, it can get stuck in their food pipe. It can badly harm them or even put their life in danger. This can happen very quickly. If your child swallows a button battery take them straight to A&E or call 999.
🎃Finally, remember it's illegal to feed carved pumpkins or kitchen scraps to farm animals or leave them out for wild animals — it can spread deadly diseases like African Swine Fever and Foot and Mouth Disease.

It’s Talk Money Week from Monday 2 to Friday 6 November – an opportunity for everyone to start a conversation about their finances.
We're encouraging everyone to take part and talk about money.
This year’s theme is It All Counts – focusing on realistic, manageable actions that we can all take to help manage our finances.
Talking about money can help build financial confidence and resilience to face financial problems in the future.
Whether it’s speaking to a lender before repayments become a problem, checking if you’re entitled to benefits you haven’t claimed, or starting a conversation about a money worry with someone you trust – It All Counts.
Find out more about the support on offer locally by visiting derbyshire.gov.uk/debtandbenefits and derbyshire.gov.uk/costofliving.

Two average speed cameras have come into operation on the A5004 Long Hill as part of work to reduce collisions and casualties.
We're installing seven cameras between Buxton and Whaley Bridge through a £3.1 million package of road safety improvements funded by the Government’s Safer Roads Fund.
The first two live cameras monitor vehicles travelling through the existing 40mph section of the road at Fernilee, between the former village hall and the Shady Oak pub.
The remaining five cameras will be switched on later this year once final electrical connections and checks have been completed. They will cover further sections of the route, including the 50mph sections north and south of Fernilee and at the Buxton and Whaley Bridge ends of the A5004.
There are no changes to the existing speed limits.
As our Families First Partnership goes live across the county, families are already benefiting from new ways of working designed to provide earlier support, stronger family involvement and better joined-up services.
Children, young people and families, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are getting help at the right time by bringing services together, reducing barriers to support and strengthening the role families play in decisions that affect them.
