Take our library survey

If you use our library service we'd like to hear your views about it.

library libraries

We're launching a customer satisfaction survey about our libraries on Monday (28 September).

We're asking questions about what libraries you use, how often, what services you need and how satisfied you are with what we offer.

It won't take long and you can complete it online or in person at a local branch. It closes on Sunday 25 October. If you're doing it online use the link on the libraries website from Monday.

Decision on waste treatment centre

Both Derbyshire County Council and Derby City Council have decided to withdraw from a long-running project to fix and bring a waste treatment centre in Derby into use.

The councils agreed that the best option to protect the interests of council tax-payers was to decommission and dispose of the Derby and Derbyshire Waste Treatment Centre in Sinfin and seek alternative longer-term arrangements for the disposal of the city and county’s household waste.

New route to boost tourism

Work is underway to explore a new off-road route which could boost tourism and support local businesses.

High Peak Junction Cromford

Linking Knowleston Place in Matlock and High Peak Junction in Cromford, the proposed new walking, wheeling and cycling route would complete a key missing section of the White Peak Loop and form part of the proposed Derwent Valley Trail.

By connecting communities, railway stations and visitor attractions, it’s hoped it could encourage more people to explore the area and support local businesses and the wider visitor economy.

The work is being developed through our Culture, Heritage and Tourism programme

Positive start for Families First

Children, young people and families across Derbyshire are already benefiting from new ways of working introduced through our Families First Partnership (FFP).

family talking to social worker

The programme makes it easier for families to access support by bringing services together and ensuring children get help sooner.

So far, family group decision making has supported 65 children from 31 families across North East Derbyshire, Bolsover and Amber Valley, helping families and professionals work together to keep children safe. Feedback shows families are more involved in decisions affecting their children.

Multi-Agency Child Protection Teams have supported 227 children across North East Derbyshire, Bolsover and South Derbyshire, helping professionals share information earlier and identify the right support.

These early results demonstrate the benefits of stronger partnership working for children and families.

Via Gellia safety cameras

If you use the A5012 Via Gellia you'll be interested to know that on Monday 28 September three new average-speed safety cameras will be switched on as part of ongoing work to make the route safer.

The cameras are:

  • north of Cromford
  • next to Old Mill Cottage
  • next to Colourworks Cottage.

The speed limits are not changing. A 40mph limit remains in place from Cromford to west of Old Mill Cottage, while a 50mph limit applies between Colourworks Cottage and Grangemill.

The cameras calculate the average speed of vehicles as they travel through each speed zone. They are clearly visible in bright yellow casings, and reminder signs have been installed along the route.

We have worked closely with Derbyshire Police to introduce the cameras and support our shared aim of making the Via Gellia safer for everyone who uses it

Carer's emergency card

If you provide unpaid care to a family member or friend, have you thought about making an emergency plan in case you’re suddenly unable to carry out your caring role?

carers card carer's card carers' card

Our carer’s emergency card can help you feel more prepared in an emergency, e.g. if you become poorly or are admitted to hospital.

Carry this card to alert emergency services and others that someone depends on you. It includes a unique reference number and our call centre contact details, so support can be arranged for the person you care for using your emergency plan.

As part of the application process, we’ll ask for your details, what you'd like to happen if you're unable to carry out your caring role, the details of the person you care for and what care you provide. You can also nominate emergency contacts such as family members who can assist in your absence.

Ilkeston waste site improvement works

If you use our household waste recycling centre in Ilkeston you're advised to leave extra time for your visit from Monday 28 September while improvements are made at the site.

The centre will stay open as usual while drainage improvements are carried out over the next four weeks. However, site capacity will be reduced from 18 vehicles to around nine, so you may face longer queues and we're asking you to sort your waste before arriving.
