We're set to invest an additional £1 million to increase the number of people available to assess and review the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
This will mean more staff to support families through the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process.
It will help staff to build stronger relationships with families, schools and partners so they have a better understanding of the community’s needs. And it means we can respond to increasing numbers of requests for EHCPs.
Our Cabinet, when it meets on Thursday 10 September 2026, will be asked to agree the funding.
Good eye health helps your child to learn, play, be happy and healthy.
You or your child may not realise they have a problem with their eyes. An NHS sight test will tell you how well your child can see and how healthy their eyes are.
NHS sight tests are free for all children under 16 years old.
If your child is starting school, or returning to school, then book them in for a free NHS sight test.

It's Know Your Numbers Week – 7 to 13 September – the UK's biggest blood pressure testing and awareness event.
Around a third of people in the UK have high blood pressure, but most don’t know it. It doesn’t have any symptoms so the only way to find out is to have a blood pressure check.
High blood pressure can lead to heart attacks, strokes and other illnesses. Once you know your numbers you can get support to bring your blood pressure under control and prevent these diseases.
We offer free blood pressure checks around Derbyshire and you can find your nearest venue here.
There is also guidance on how to take your blood pressure at home on the Blood Pressure UK website.
