Would you like to help shape our future decisions and direction, including which services to prioritise and where council taxpayers’ money should be spent?
We're leading a new initiative designed to improve how children, young people and families are supported in Derbyshire, called the Families First Programme (FFP).
The FFP programme will help families get the support they need earlier, making it easier to understand what help is available and where to go. It will bring services together so families don't have to repeat their story to different professionals.
It is aimed at families who may be finding things difficult at times in their lives, as well as those who need extra support to help their children grow and thrive. This includes families with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The partnership brings together services including schools, health visitors, GPs, children’s services, police and voluntary groups so they can work more closely to support families.
📸Our Family Group Conference team, which supports children’s wider family networks to come together in a safe and respectful space, with the right preparation and information, to develop plans that promote safety, wellbeing and long-term outcomes.

You can still have your say in our public consultation about a proposals to close Glossop Household Waste Recycling Centre and a range of other cost-saving options at all of the county’s recycling centres.
Fill in a questionnaire online before the closing date on 23 July 2026.
We've put forward proposals to close the centre on Melandra Road in order to save £360,000 a year in running costs because we're experiencing financial challenges.
More than 3,600 people have already taken part in the 12-week public consultation which was launched last month to gather people’s views about the potential closure – including alternative options that would impact all household waste recycling centres in Derbyshire.
This Volunteers Week, which ends on Sunday 7 June, we’ve been celebrating the amazing people who give their time to support communities across Derbyshire.
Volunteers support youth groups, sports clubs, befriending services, day centres and local community projects. Many also volunteer to build skills and experience for future work, training or education.
To support the amazing volunteers in Derbyshire we run a free, 10-hour accredited Volunteer Passport course to support volunteers, or would-be volunteers, with the skills they need.
Held across Derbyshire, and online, the course is delivered by our adult community education service and is open to everyone, whether you already volunteer or are thinking about getting involved for the first time.
Completing the course shows you have the skills, commitment, and enthusiasm to support your community – and it can open doors to future volunteering or employment opportunities.
Search ‘volunteer passport’ on the DACES course finder using the 'find out more' button below to see upcoming dates.

With the men's football World Cup about to start, the Government is urging fans to stick to 0% alcohol drinks if they're driving to watch a game at the pub or round a friend's house.
Large-scale sporting occasions like the World Cup often mean increased socialising, which can make them higher-risk for drink driving.
Alcohol-related road casualties tend to rise in the summer anyway and a World Cup is likely to lead to more. So make sure you stay safe when driving and choose 0% alcohol while you're watching the match, celebrating a win – or lamenting a loss.

Our Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service is showcasing Learning Disability Week 2026.
This year's theme, 'Do you see me?', is a powerful reminder to recognise, value and listen to people with a learning disability, ensuring they are seen, heard, included and respected in every part of society.
The incredible achievements, creativity and individuality of learners will take centre stage throughout the celebrations.
During the week – which runs from 15-21 June – there will be community and family engagement events, inclusive activities and taster sessions as well as displays of artwork, photography and poems.
There will also be a series of events held in Glossop, Clay Cross, Swadlincote and Cotmanhay to bring together learners, families, carers, staff and partner organisations to celebrate inclusive learning and community.
