Invest in Derbyshire is launching a new campaign to grow investment in the county’s economy, showcasing a portfolio of development opportunities worth billions of pounds.
Working with district and borough councils, our Invest in Derbyshire campaign will be launched at an event on Thursday 7 May at Toyota’s Burnaston car manufacturing plant – one of the most successful inward investments in the county’s history.
Speakers include representatives from Toyota, East Midlands Freeport, Devonshire Group, the University of Derby and Business Peak District.
More than 100 investors, developers, businesses and local government partners are expected to attend the event, which marks the start of a concerted effort to build on Derbyshire’s reputation as a home for industries critical to the future of the regional and national economy.
Investors and developers who haven't yet secured their place are encouraged to register for this free event via EventBrite.
If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) you need to apply to us for their school transport by Sunday 31 May.
A new application for transport starting in September 2026 needs to be submitted if your child or young person is:
- moving from Year 6 to Year 7
- moving from Year 11 into post‑16 education
- already in post‑16 education and continuing their studies in September 2026.
You don't need to apply if:
- your child is remaining at the same school and there is no change to their placement, from year 6 to year 7
- you have already submitted an application for a September 2026 start, please don't apply again — we'll contact you in due course.
New applications are needed where a child or young person is changing phase or moving into post‑16 provision, even if they've previously received transport support.
Applications received after 31 May 2026 may mean transport can't be guaranteed to be in place for the start of term.

Do you use heating oil or bottled gas in your home for your heating and hot water?
We're launching a new fund to support vulnerable households who rely on heating oil or bottled gas with the rising costs of fuel. We're using funding from the Government, announced in response to higher prices arising from the conflict in the Middle East.
Approximately, 7,800 households currently use heating oil in the county, with a further almost 3,000 homes that rely on LPG.
Up to £311,000 is available to support low-income and vulnerable people across Derbyshire, who are not connected to the mains gas network and are having trouble in obtaining fuel.
Where people are eligible, we could contribute up to £350 towards the cost of LPG or heating oil, with payments made directly to fuel suppliers. In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible for the full cost of fuel, up to the equivalent of 500 litres, to be covered.

If you use our recycling centres, but particularly the one at Glossop, you may want to have your say about proposals to close it.
We're experiencing financial challenges and have put forward proposals to close the centre, on Melandra Road, in order to save £360,000 a year in running costs.
Now a 12-week public consultation has been launched to gather people’s views about the potential closure – including alternative options that would impact all household waste recycling centres in Derbyshire. For example, reducing the opening hours or days that all our recycling centres open. We run nine altogether.
Anyone wishing to have their say should fill in our online questionnaire before the closing date on 23 July 2026.
Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service is a freephone service available to everyone living in Derbyshire – open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
From 1 July 2026 the only way to contact the helpline will be by calling 111 and then selecting the ‘mental health’ option (option 2).
Since April 2024, the 24/7 Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service offered local people two ways to call the team: via an 0800 number and via NHS 111. The 0800 number – 0800 028 0077 – will be switched off on 1 July.
When people dial 111 and select ‘mental health’, they are put through to their local helpline team who can tell them about local support services. Having one number simplifies the call handling process for the helpline team, meaning the team can respond to calls more effectively.
The line serving the Deaf community will continue to operate as usual. First, call 111 using the SignVideo app or SignVideo website. This will connect the user via video link to a BSL interpreter.
Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service (DACES) is taking part in two national campaigns this May that shine a light on wellbeing, confidence and lifelong learning: Mental Health Awareness Week and Learning at Work Week.
Mental Health Awareness Week – 11 to 17 May
This year’s theme encourages everyone to take simple steps to support their mental wellbeing. Throughout the week, DACES will be sharing tips, resources and real learner stories that show how learning can boost confidence, reduce stress and help people feel more connected. Residents and partners can explore a range of Health & Wellbeing and Brightside courses, including tasters designed to help people try something new.
Learning at Work Week – 18 to 24 May
The following week celebrates the power of learning to support skills, motivation and career development. DACES is offering tasters and short courses for adults who want to upskill, retrain or build confidence at work. This year also includes a special SME focus, highlighting funded training opportunities available to local employers and small businesses.
