We all know that walking is good for us – improving our health, wellbeing and social connection when we walk with others. That’s why we've approved funding for the Walk Derbyshire programme to give people more opportunities to get out and about together.
We’ve invested £80,000 to help support new walking activities in areas of Derbyshire where people are less active.
In the last year, Walk Derbyshire has successfully:
- Trained 131 people to become qualified walk leaders through its accreditation scheme.
- Supported the development of almost 100 walking groups
- Seen nearly 25,000 participations in walks.
The extra money aims to boost the number of walking sessions, tackle barriers to walking and lead to a reduction in inactivity.
📸Walk Derbyshire hosts a variety of walks across the county, including this Wellness walk.
Do you know what to do when an online shopping order goes wrong?
Our trading standards team is backing a campaign led by Citizens Advice to help you:
🔍 Spot scams and fake shops
📦 Know what to do if your parcel isn’t delivered
🛍️ Understand your rights to a refund for faulty products.
Citizens Advice received more than 14,000 complaints about online fashion buys last year – from tatty goods to delivery delays and retail scams. You should:
- Research unfamiliar companies and check independent reviews
- Be wary of big discounts or “too good to be true” offers
- Treat targeted social media ads with caution – they often draw people in
- Look out for AI‑generated images (overly smooth skin, odd textures, distortions)
- Check delivery details – long shipping times may mean the seller is overseas
- If you’ve been scammed and paid by card, you may get a refund through chargeback or Section 75.
You can get consumer advice from the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133.

A Derbyshire business has been fined £2,800 and ordered to pay nearly £4,000 costs after admitting selling vapes to an underage person and possession for supply of non-compliant, illicit vapes.
The successful prosecution was brought by our trading standards team following an investigation.
Satpal Singh Grewal, 66, company director of George Food and Wine Limited appeared before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Monday (23 February), and pleaded guilty to seven charges relating to the sale of nicotine inhaling products (vapes) to underage persons and possession for supply of illicit vapes from his shop in George Street, Church Gresley, Swadlincote.
If you're a carer you might like to know there are monthly support groups held across the county and online.
The groups are a great opportunity for carers to meet other carers and get support and advice.
They’re hosted by Derbyshire Carers Association, which delivers a wide range of support services on our behalf.
As well as online events, groups meet up in person across the county, including in Belper, Buxton, Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Riddings, Ripley, Swadlincote and Staveley.
