General News
‘Let’s Talk About Menopause’ Webinar Success
In October, the Healthy Workplaces Derbyshire Team delivered a Menopause Webinar, with support from Henpicked - a specialist menopause training provider.
Over 100 people attended the online webinar, and 100% said they would recommend the training to friends and colleagues.
The webinar focused on why menopause needs to be talked about in the workplace, the impact it may have on people’s work, and the need for support from colleagues in the workplace.
The webinar was very informative, and feedback from attendees was hugely positive.
Here are just a handful of comments:
“A really well-thought-out presentation, I enjoyed it very much. 10 out of 10 from me!”
“Clear presentation and so informative. I felt the session was talking to me personally.”
“Really good overview - it’s made me think more about what I can do and how I can be more proactive in managing my menopause journey.”
“I’m now a Menopause Champion for my company and looking forward to supporting my colleagues.”
“I feel empowered to share my menopause experience and support others.”
The team hopes to run more webinars later this year and looks forward to seeing some of you there!

Influenza (Flu) Information
What is Flu?
Flu is not just a bad cold; it is an illness caused by a flu virus that can have serious complications such as pneumonia. In the most severe cases, it can be life-threatening.
The flu is very infectious and spreads via coughing and sneezing. The flu virus can live on hands and surfaces for 24 hours, so hand washing and regularly disinfecting surfaces can help stop the spread.
Most people can recover from the flu at home. Antibiotics do not work against the flu virus and will not speed up recovery time.

Your Sexual Health Matters: all year round
Share these top tips with your colleagues:
-
New Year, same you. It’s easy to get swept up in the “New Year, New Me” mindset, but looking after your sexual health shouldn’t be seasonal. Make it a regular part of your wellbeing routine — whatever the time of year.
- Whether you’re in a long-term relationship, dating, exploring new connections, or enjoying intimacy in any form, staying informed and proactive helps you feel confident and protected. Routine testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) is quick, free and confidential, and reviewing your contraception options - including methods that reduce the risk of STIs — can help you make choices that suit your needs.
- Checking in with partners about boundaries and expectations can strengthen trust and wellbeing. Healthy sexual relationships start and are built on communication, consent and self-care — and making these habits part of your regular routine pays off all year round.

Visit the 'Your Sexual Health Matters' website below for more details on how to support your sexual wellness.

Stand Up to Cancer Screening Checker
Cancer screening is for people without symptoms. In the UK, national cancer screening programmes are run by the NHS, and the Public Health Agency (PHA) in Northern Ireland.
In most cases, eligible people are invited automatically, but you can use our screening checker to see if you’re eligible to take part.
If you want to take part but are worried or have questions, our celebs can help.
Cancer screening aims to spot cancer at an early stage, when treatment is more likely to be successful. Some types of screening can also prevent cancer from developing in the first place.
To discover whether you are eligible for cancer screening, please visit the official website below.

National Campaigns 2026
JANUARY
Dry January
Led by Alcohol Change UK, Dry January provides a great opportunity for workplaces to boost staff wellbeing and encourage a healthier start to the New Year.
At this moment in time, workplaces across the UK lose approximately £7.3 billion annually due to alcohol-related absences and lower performance.
To combat this, workplaces can participate and kickstart conversations by hosting a staff quiz on the dangers of alcohol, running a 'dry event' such as a team lunch or outdoor walk, and assigning a colleague the title of 'Dry January® Champion' to promote the campaign more widely by sharing FREE digital resources 🔗.
For those looking to lower their alcohol consumption for January, or even throughout the year, Alcohol Change UK's FREE Try Dry Mobile App 🔗 offers practical resources.
Users can track money saved by reducing alcohol intake, keep tabs on sleep and energy levels and even take on challenges, including the 'Try Dry® Anytime Cut Back Challenge'. This is available to download from both the App Store 🔗 and Google Play Store 🔗.
To find out more about the campaign, including the benefits it can bring to the world of work, please check out Alcohol Change UK's official website below.

FEBRUARY
National Heart Month
National Heart Month, hosted by UK charity Heart UK, takes place every year throughout February. The event aims to highlight cholesterol, as well as its negative impacts on heart health when high levels are reached.
Currently, in the UK, nearly half of all adults suffer from high cholesterol levels. Although this often presents with no physical symptoms, it can significantly increase an individual's chances of experiencing a heart attack and/or stroke.
To tackle this, Heart UK have launched the 10,000 step challenge, where individuals and workplace colleagues can support the cause by walking 10,000 steps daily across February to both raise awareness of the dangers of cholesterol and funds for those battling high cholesterol levels. You can register here 🔗 and also download a FREE printable step tracker 🔗.
Individuals can also get involved with families by cooking 'heart-healthy' recipes at home, ranging from a Spanish omelette to spicy pasta, by visiting Heart UK's online recipe guide 🔗.
Those interested in finding out their cholesterol levels can do so by visiting their local GP, pharmacist or receiving an NHS Health Check 🔗.
Finally, to discover more, be sure to follow the campaign on Heart UK's official social media pages (Instagram 🔗 & Facebook 🔗) and visit the official webpage below.

MARCH
Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Ovarian Cancer Month, launched by UK charity Ovarian Cancer Action in 2005, runs throughout the month of March.
Across the UK, each year, approximately 7,500 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Following diagnosis, only 1 in 3 women survives longer than 10 years, predominantly due to the disease being detected too late - this makes up 71% of current cases.
The campaign aims to strengthen support for women by increasing public knowledge of symptoms, eradicating stigma by initiating discussions and establishing a more positive future for women living with ovarian cancer.
Individuals can take part in the campaign by sharing and displaying FREE digital resources 🔗 with colleagues at their workplace, including posters, leaflets and social media posts.
You can also sign up for the 'Walk in Her Name Challenge' 🔗 to walk 100km across March with family, friends and/or colleagues. Participants receive a FREE t-shirt and digital fundraising materials to help raise awareness and donations for ovarian cancer research.
Lastly, to receive the latest news on the campaign, register for Ovarian Cancer Action's official newsletter 🔗 and get involved with their social media posts (Facebook 🔗, LinkedIn 🔗 and Instagram 🔗).
