Record breaking exercise session

Our public health team joined Age Uk Derby and Derbyshire and Chesterfield FC to hold a world record-breaking chair based exercise session.

Live Stronger for longer

The previous record stood at just over 720 people taking part in a chair based exercise session at one time, and over 1,200 people turned out in force to help to smash that record!

All to promote falls prevention awareness.

If you are concerned about falls, or are visiting a friend or family member, then there are several risks you can look out for and deal with. Falls are not an inevitable part of getting older and we can all play a part in helping reduce them.

Fine for underage sales

A market stall trader has been fined £500 and ordered to pay £1,800 costs after admitting selling vapes to an underage person.

The successful prosecution was brought by our trading standards team following an investigation.

Ajit Sethi, 75, sole trader of Mickleover, Derby, appeared before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Monday 22 September 2025 and pleaded guilty to a charge of selling nicotine inhaling products (vapes) to an underage person from his market stall at Chesterfield Market.

In November 2024, Derbyshire Trading Standards Officers conducted a test purchase exercise at the market stall when two vapes were sold to a young person under the age of 18 years by an employee of Mr Sethi. No attempt was made to verify their age or request identification.

As well as the fine and costs, Mr Sethi was also ordered to pay a £200 victim surcharge.
