General News
Employees on Track To Get Healthy
Swadlincote staff are on track to get healthy thanks to support from the Healthy Workplaces Derbyshire (HWD) Team.
Dellner UK Ltd. started working with Healthy Workplaces Derbyshire in September 2024, after finding out about the services we could offer.
The Swadlincote site manufactures and maintains train track components across the globe.
Kevin Doherty is the site’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment manager.
He said:
“Supporting our employees in any way we can from a health perspective is beneficial to both ourselves - from a business point of view, and for our employees so using the scheme made sense.
From a business perspective, if the results did show up any potential issues, the hope is employees act on the results leading to a reduction in absentee days.
From a workforce point of view, it shows we care for our employee’s wellbeing and also gives them a good overview of their current health position."
Our Healthy Workplace Derbyshire team visited the site over 6 days in 2024 and carried out 47 health checks 🔗.
Kevin says that communication between the Healthy Workplaces Derbyshire Team and the business was very good, working to ensure the service was delivered at appropriate, convenient times.
He added:
“It is good that a service such as this is offered in this day and age of cutting costs.
We as a business benefitted and our employees appreciated the service.”

Changes to the NHS Cervical Screening Programme
The NHS has announced that routine cervical screening will be offered every 5 years, rather than every 3, for all women and people with a cervix aged 25-49 who test negative for Human Papillomavirus (HPV). This programme change is recommended by the UK National Screening Committee and is based on robust evidence that someone who has tested negative for HPV is at a very low risk of developing cervical cancer within 10 years. HPV causes almost all cases of cervical cancer.
|
Key facts:
-
This change will take effect from July this year, but you will still be invited for your next screening appointment based on the old schedule.
-
Those who test positive for HPV will continue to be invited more regularly.
-
Screening for 50-64-year-olds will continue to be offered every 5 years.
-
The changes to the universal programme have no impact on the symptomatic screening pathway, and you should still contact your GP if you have any of these symptoms - click here 🔗.
- If you can’t remember when your screening is due, or if you think you may have missed it, you can contact your GP at any time to arrange a catch-up appointment.

National Campaigns 2025
JULY
Alcohol Awareness Week
Alcohol Awareness Week (hosted by Alcohol Change UK 🔗) will take place between 7th - 13th July. This year's theme is 'alcohol and work'.
Alcohol has become a core part of UK culture as a way to bond with friends and loved ones, celebrate the end of the working week, connect at networking functions, etc. Alcohol takes the spotlight, which can make individuals who don't consume alcohol feel uneasy due to fear of missing out.
However, all that glitters is not golden.
Approximately 10 million UK residents routinely consume alcohol in a manner which can negatively impact physical and mental health. The aftereffects of alcohol include hangovers, interrupted sleep patterns, headaches, and for some, over time, can trigger feelings of anxiety and anger.
The year's campaign aims to spark conversations on the harm alcohol can have on day-to-day working lives, as well as shifting the focus to individuals being at the forefront of discussions and events rather than alcohol.
Thousands of workplaces across the UK take part in Alcohol Awareness Week annually to drive meaningful discussions so staff feel more comfortable discussing the subject.
To get your workplace involved and take advantage of FREE digital promotional resources (posters, social media graphics, workplace guide, etc.) be sure to explore the official website below.

AUGUST
Love Parks Week
Love Parks Week, (hosted by UK Charity - Keep Britain Tidy 🔗), will take place between 25th July - 3rd August.
The campaign aims to recognise and commemorate the importance parks and open green spaces have in our everyday lives.
Inside and outside of work, parks themselves provide a wonderful opportunity to boost our physical health and wellbeing and link in with the local community. Whether it's walking with workplace colleagues at a local park during your lunch break, an after-work stroll, or visiting a green space with friends and/or family at the weekend, they are an ideal place to relax and connect with nature.
To celebrate the occasion, events anyone can get involved in will take place across the UK throughout the week, including a celebratory event at Coronation Park, Swadlincote. (The official map will be updated in the run-up to the event and can be viewed here 🔗.)
You can also follow and get involved with the campaign on social media (Facebook 🔗, LinkedIn 🔗 and Instagram 🔗) by using the hashtag #LoveParks to share your latest adventures.
Finally, to learn more about the campaign, be sure to visit Keep Britain Tidy's official website below.

SEPTEMBER
National Eye Health Week
National Eye Health Week (NEHW) hosted by Vision Matters, will take place this year between 22nd - 28th September.
At this moment in time, over 2 million UK individuals are battling sight loss. Over the next 5 years, this is set to rise to 2.7 million people. Losing vision often has a detrimental effect on employment, sense of independence and overall wellbeing.
The annual campaign aims to tackle this by stressing the importance of maintaining healthy eyes. Around 50% of sight loss can be prevented by taking precautions, such as undergoing routine eye tests, wearing sunglasses to combat UV rays when the sun is out and cutting down on screen time.
Want to promote the campaign in your workplace? Follow Vision Matters' official social media pages, including Instagram 🔗 and X (formerly Twitter) 🔗 so you can be one of the first to know when this year's campaign resources are available.
You can also discover more about National Eye Health Week by visiting Vision Matters' website below.
