Get your summer off to a great start by considering planting trees.
Government grants are available for landowners in eastern and southern Derbyshire to plant trees as part of Derbyshire’s Heartwood Community Forest.
So if you, your workplace or a local organisation have land available, we want to hear from you.
Benefits of tree planting include enhancing wildlife, absorbing noise and helping to reduce flood risk.
And if you’ve recently been involved in tree planting, from a single sapling in your garden to a larger number in a community space or school, remember you can record them on our interactive online map as part of our project to plant a million trees across the county by 2030.

As the weather heats up, the temptation to swim outdoors often rises too. But in Drowning Prevention Week we're asking you to stay safe around water – and to remind children and young people in particular about the risks.
Open water can hide dangers such as debris and rocks. Reeds can quickly lead to entrapment. The cold temperature of the water can also lead to Cold Water Shock – causing cramp and difficulty breathing – this can lead to drowning in even the strongest swimmer.
It's a sad statistic that every year in the UK, around 400 people die from accidental drowning, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service tell us.
Know the dangers and keep out of open water. If you do find yourself in difficulty, ensure you know how to #FloatToLive.
For swimming in all scenarios – indoors and out, home and abroad – there’s a Water Safety Code from the Royal Life Saving Society. It will equip you and your family with vital lifesaving knowledge to keep you safe, in, on and around water:

If you're out and about on Derbyshire's roads in July and August, you'll probably see our road teams working to improve some of the county's dual carriageways.
Our programme of general housekeeping on the dual carriageways that we're responsible for in Derbyshire starts in early July.
The work includes cutting the grass on the central reservations and at the sides of the roads, trimming back trees and shrubs to improve visibility, emptying the gullies and drains, carrying out pothole and other road repairs and any other bits of maintenance work that needs carrying out.
We work with district and borough councils who will be picking up litter at the side of the road or in the central reservation at the same time while the traffic management is in place.
Our trading standards team is warning about winter fuel payment scam text messages that are doing the rounds.
If you get a text message about winter fuel payments, it’s a scam. Don’t click on any links.
Winter fuel payments will happen automatically. You don’t need to make a claim.
