Stop Loan Sharks campaign

We’re backing a Stop Loan Sharks campaign to help protect Derbyshire residents from turning to illegal money lenders.

Stop Loan Sharks graphic

A loan shark is an illegal money lender who lends money without permission from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

We’re working with England’s Stop Loan Sharks to protect residents through our affordable credit project which has so far helped more than 2,000 residents sign up to save or borrow from their local credit union.

To check whether your lender is legal visit the FCA website.

If they are not on the register they are probably not authorised to lend. If you have borrowed from an illegal lender, you have not broken the law, the lender has.

You can report an illegal lender:

Foster and change a child’s life

Foster Care Fortnight has ended but our search for amazing people to help change lives for children and young people across Derbyshire goes on.

Foster Care Fortnight 2025 graphic

We’re part of Foster for East Midlands Councils, a regional partnership of Derbyshire County Council, Derby City Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council, working together to find loving family homes for the children in our care.

Together we’re supporting the national Foster Care Fortnight campaign and this year’s theme – The Power of Relationships – highlights the life-changing bonds created between foster carers, children and communities.

Have you considered fostering? You don’t need any special qualifications and there are opportunities to suit people aged 21 and over from all kinds of background, home situation and lifestyle, ranging from short-term emergency respite care to long-term fostering.

All our foster carers receive an allowance and a competitive package of support, benefits and training plus ongoing support.
