County Hall in Matlock was lit up red, white and blue last night, Thursday 8 May, to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
People all around the county, including our staff, observed a two-minute silence at noon to remember those who fought for the freedom we all enjoy today.
VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, marks the end of World War II in Europe. It commemorates the day when the Allies officially accepted the surrender of Nazi Germany on May 8 1945.
