Working to keep roads clear

Our gritter drivers are working round the clock to keep Derbyshire moving and have been going flat out since the bad weather hit at the weekend.

gritter in snow

Snow, ice and very low temperatures mean crews have been working day and night.

Grit1

Gritting routes have been taking us longer because our crews are putting more grit down. This means the lorries have to go back to their depots halfway through to refill. So if you see a gritter not gritting, that means it's on its way to get some more grit.

You can find out which roads have been gritted on our website.

And a big thank-you to everyone – farmer contractors, Derbyshire 4x4, mountain rescue, Derbyshire emergency volunteers – who are helping during this stretch of bad weather.

When bad weather hits keep your eye on our social media channels, Facebook and X/Twitter and if main roads are closed you’ll find out there.

Signing up to the Met Office email alerts can also help you be prepared for any severe weather that could be on the way. Find advice about how to stay well this winter and sign up to Met Office alerts.

Sinfin Waste Treatment Centre update

Along with Derby City Council, we have invited bids from the waste industry for a contract to fix and operate the Sinfin Waste Treatment centre in Derby.

Fixing and operating the facility was found to be the most viable and cost-effective, long-term solution to manage household waste from both the city and county, taking into account the councils’ ongoing commitment to encourage residents to reduce, reuse and recycle more of their waste.

Don't forget to have your say

Time is running out to have your say in two public consultations which close soon.

We’re asking everyone to give us their views on proposals for closer working with our health partners and the future shape of our in-house care services.

In November, our Cabinet agreed to a range of measures which will support changes to the way we provide in-house care services for older people. Cabinet also agreed to further consultation on the use of some of our care homes.

Find out more and have your say by Sunday 12 January here: Further consultation to determine the future use of our remaining residential homes

Proposals for closer working with our health partners through a legal agreement to help more Derbyshire residents stay living independently at home are also being consulted on. The consultation Further integration between health and social care closes on Thursday 16 January.
