Motorists in the north of the county may be pleased to hear we’ve just re-opened the A57 Snake Pass following our maintenance work.
We carried out a range of work including – resurfacing and repairs to road surfaces in various places, drainage works, retaining wall repairs and more detailed investigations on the ongoing landslips.
There are still two sets of traffic lights at the big landslips (Alport and Doctors Gate), and the HGV weight restriction along the road remains.
Thank you for all your patience while the pass was closed. There are overnight closures coming up for more tree work by Severn Trent from Monday 2 to Saturday 14 December from 8pm-6am. These will be on the A57 end towards Sheffield.

Don't be caught out by text messages saying you're entitled to money from things like the Household Support Fund. Stop before you click.
It’s Scams Awareness Week and we’re warning people to beware of scam text messages that are circulating, claiming you’re eligible for a “living expenses subsidy” or "winter heating payment" or similar.
It might talk about “cost of living payments” and pretend to be from a Government department.
The message may say you’re eligible for money from things like the household support fund if you click on a link and give your details.
This is a scam. Don’t click on any links in the text. Instead, forward it to 7726. Or take a screenshot and email it to report@phishing.gov.uk

If you use the 147 and 148 bus services, you'll be pleased to hear they're staying on the road.
We've been working to make sure that the two scheduled bus services, the 147 from Belper to Marehay through Ripley, and the 148 from Alfreton to Codnor through Pentrich, have a new operator.
Derbyshire Community Transport (DCT) has signalled its intention to close down by the end of this month, leaving these services, and others, without an operator.
But following lots of work, the new contracts to continue these services have been awarded to Notts and Derby Buses, who will start running the routes from 1 November 2024 – meaning there will be no gap in service.
We're working on finding new contractors for the other services provided by DCT.

Are you a farmer, landowner or land manager or know someone who is? We’re after your views to help develop plans to protect and prioritise nature in Derby and Derbyshire.
We’re running a survey and the results will be an important part of our Local Nature Recovery Strategy. This is a project to plan how councils, businesses, landowners, land managers and other organisations can work together in the future to make sure nature and habitats on our doorsteps can thrive and survive whilst respecting livelihoods and various land use needs.
We previously ran a survey for the general public and there were more than 1,000 responses. Now it’s the turn of farmers, landowners and land managers to have their say. The closing date for the survey is Friday 29 November 2024.

Have you heard about our keep safe cards? You can use them to get help at one of our Safe Places.
A Safe Place is somewhere you can go if you need help, are lost or feel scared when out and about. They include libraries, shops, restaurants, pharmacies, visitor attractions, GP surgeries and more. Each venue has a sticker in their window so you can see that they are part of the scheme and know you can go in and ask for help if you need to. Watch our Safe Places video.
Anyone over the age of 11 can apply for a keep safe card. It has space for you to write your name, the name and phone number of a family member or carer and anything else a person might need to know about you.

Work is progressing well at Staveley Waterside.
A new, two-storey building is being constructed next to Staveley Canal. With the steelwork going up you can see how the building will transform the area around the canal basin.
Funded through the Staveley Town Deal, the project includes the development of new commercial space, including the potential for a new café bar and moorings for canal boats which aims to help bring more visitors to the site to explore the canal and local area.

If you use Derbyshire libraries, have you had your say yet on proposals that would change some aspects of our library service? The consultation closes on 2 November.
We unveiled a number of proposals for our library service in the summer, which aim to keep library buildings open across the county as well as creating a modern, agile, family-friendly and sustainable service for all our residents.
The library service proposals are set out in our new draft Derbyshire Public Library Service Strategy 'A Modern Library Service for Derbyshire'.
The proposals are aimed at meeting necessary budget savings and reflecting changing patterns of library use while ensuring the service remains as accessible, efficient and cost-effective as possible.
A 12-week consultation launched in August, and more than 1,300 people have already taken part by filling out the consultation questionnaire
