After the snow comes … an awful lot of water on the roads.
Please take care when you are driving and never drive or walk into floodwater, even if it appears shallow.
Just 30cm of flowing water could be enough to float your car and driving too fast through flooded roads can lead to neighbouring properties being affected.
We’re also starting to see some flood warnings issued for parts of the county. You can sign up to receive flood warnings online.
If your home or business was severely damaged by flooding between 19 and 25 October 2023, you can apply for funding to help protect your property from further flooding in the future.
Property owners can apply for funding of up to £5,000 through the Property Flood Resilience Grant Scheme for grant money to put resistance measures in place such as flood doors, barriers and pumps. The grants can also be used for resilience measures, such as water-resistant plaster and replacing suspended timber floors with solid concrete, to reduce the impact of flooding should it occur and help you to recover more quickly.
We are administering the funding provided by DEFRA – the Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs – and we’ve received more than 200 applications from local property owners since the grant scheme opened earlier this month.

Do you need some help getting to your medical appointments?
Access to Health is a bus service that is partly funded by Derbyshire County Council and is available for disabled people and those that cannot access public transport for their healthcare needs.
If you or someone you know needs the service, call 03333 444125 for High Peak, Derbyshire Dales & South Derbyshire.
The Volunteer Driver will usually wait for you at your medical appointment for up to 2 hours and then bring you home again if required.
This great service relies on volunteers, get in touch on the number above if you’re interested in helping out.
There’s still time for voluntary, community and charity organisations across the county to apply for a grant to open warm and welcoming spaces this winter.
With the deadline to apply approaching, local organisations still have time to claim up to £1,000 to help them support people this winter.
So far we have awarded more than £93,000 to more than 100 groups to help create spaces to help residents feeling lonely or struggling to heat their homes.
The cash can be used to cover running costs, including energy bills and to provide a drink or a bite to eat for visitors.
In return, organisations need to pledge to provide a warm, safe space with comfortable seating which is free to use.
Our carers support service – which is delivered by DCA on our behalf – includes:
- information, advice, and guidance
- individual support, including face to face, home visits and telephone support
- carer assessments and support planning
- training and learning
- peer support and carer support groups
- volunteering opportunities and more.
