Celebrating 15 years of Trusted Trader!

The scheme that helps you find trustworthy tradespeople and services is marking its 15th anniversary.

Trusted Trader Jackie Howe

Jackie Howe, above, who runs Hooves and Paws Pet and Equine Services in Newbold, Chesterfield, whose business includes dog walking, horse care and pet visit services, said: “Customers trust me to take care of their pets, who are part of their family. Knowing that the person they choose has been checked by the council’s trading standards gives peace of mind.”

Around 1,000 traders and services, ranging from plumbers, electricians, gardeners, joiners and decorators to electric vehicle charger installers, accountants, dog walkers, removal firms and will writers, have registered as Trusted Traders since we set the scheme up in 2008.

Neil, who lives in Coal Aston, used our Derbyshire Trusted Trader database to find plasterer Nick from Dronfield.

Neil said: “When we’ve needed big jobs doing, Trusted Trader is our go-to place. We’ve used the scheme several times and have always been very impressed and pleased with the work done. I think we had a great job done at a very fair price and, equally as important, when we needed it doing. Nick was great!”

Trusted Trader Martin Maguire

Trusted Trader Martin Maguire, left, of M&M Body Repairs, Alfreton, said: “I would recommend becoming a Derbyshire Trusted Trader to other businesses. Not just anyone can become a Trusted Trader – businesses are vetted by trading standards officers. The fee is really good value. One job pays for that. Trusted Trader provides protection for the public. Customers give honest reviews with no names, so you can trust what you’re reading.”

Have your say on recycling centres

We want to know what you think about proposals for the way our household waste recycling centres are run in the future.

HWRC small

We currently run nine recycling centres across the county for use by Derbyshire residents only. The centres, which accept household waste only, are all open seven days a week from 8.30am-6pm, except on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Now we have launched a public consultation to find out what you think about:

  • reducing the number of hours or days the centres are open.
  • charging residents to dispose of tyres and asbestos at the recycling centres
  • supporting local businesses and sole traders by allowing them to dispose of commercial waste at a limited number of the recycling centres for a reasonable charge. Trade waste is currently not accepted at any of the sites
  • changing the rules on DIY and construction waste.
