Buxton Museum and Art Gallery has closed temporarily because we've discovered dry rot in some of the building's structural timbers.
We need to carry out further investigations which we can’t do while the museum is open, so unfortunately we had no choice but to close. We'll post updates on our social media channels when we can.
Sadly this also means we’ve had to cancel this year’s Open Art Exhibition due to the work.

One of our personal assistants, who is a reservist for the RAF in her spare time, has been praised for her role in the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Gina Bingham, who has worked for us for eight years, has been serving as a reservist for two years with the 2503 Royal Auxiliary Air Force Squadron based at RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire.
Mum-of-two Gina, who has the rank AS1, Air Specialist (Class1), was selected to be part of the 2503 Royal Auxiliary Air Force Squadron contingent to travel to London to assist in the Coronation on 6 May.
Gina has won praise for her role from her Commanding Officer, Squadron Leader Robert Davies of the 2503 Royal Auxiliary Air Force, who has written to County Council Leader Councillor Barry Lewis, calling her "an asset to the squadron".

Please help us to encourage residents to compost their garden and kitchen waste as part of our journey to NetZero. We’re reminding them of the composting advice on our website and offers on compost bins which can be home delivered.
For those who don’t compost at home the advice is to use their District Council's green waste scheme (charges apply in some districts/boroughs) or to bring their green waste to one of our nine household waste recycling centres for free. At the centres they’ll find bargain bags of peat free compost on offer for just £3 per bag. This is made from garden waste so helping to cut carbon and protect the environment. Stocks of the compost are good at the recycling centres but in case of high demand residents are being advised not to make a special journey.
The recycling centres are open from 8.30am to 6pm daily (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day). Please avoid busy periods if possible such as weekends from 10am to 4pm.

Fill in a short survey about travelling in and around the Hope Valley – and you could win a short break!

Do you travel in and around the Hope Valley in Derbyshire? You may be a resident or someone who visits for work, education or leisure purposes. If so, climate campaign group Hope Valley Climate Action wants to hear from you.
Their 'Travelling Light' project has been awarded Department for Transport funding to help make low-carbon travel people’s first choice for journeys in and into Hope Valley.
As part of the project they are running an online survey to find out what journeys Hope Valley residents and visitors to the Valley currently make, might make in the future and how these choices are affected by transport options available. All those completing the survey will be given the chance to win a two-night stay at a 5 Star Award Winning B&B In the Hope Valley. The survey closes on 30 June.

The latest addition to the growing number of repair cafes in Derbyshire is Crich . There are now 16 cafes across the county - helping to cut waste and build repair skills. Volunteer repairers fix things for free (donations are welcome) and visitors enjoy refreshments and have the chance to learn how to repair things for themselves. It all helps on Derbyshire’s journey to net zero.
Items the repairers tackle can include small electricals such as toasters, hairdryers, lamps, radios and headphones. Clothing, garden tools, bikes, computers, hand tools and small items of furniture can also be considered for repair.
Goods that are beyond repair can be taken to our household waste recycling centres
The Crich café will be held on Saturday 10 June from 10am to 12noon and then on regular Saturdays henceforth. The venue is the Glebe Field Community Centre. Along with the repairers will be refreshments, lots of information about living more sustainably and a table top sale.
