Buxton Museum and Art Gallery has closed temporarily because we've discovered dry rot in some of the building's structural timbers.
We need to carry out further investigations which we can’t do while the museum is open, so unfortunately we had no choice but to close. We'll post updates on our social media channels when we can.
Sadly this also means we’ve had to cancel this year’s Open Art Exhibition due to the work.

One of our personal assistants, who is a reservist for the RAF in her spare time, has been praised for her role in the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Gina Bingham, who has worked for us for eight years, has been serving as a reservist for two years with the 2503 Royal Auxiliary Air Force Squadron based at RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire.
Mum-of-two Gina, who has the rank AS1, Air Specialist (Class1), was selected to be part of the 2503 Royal Auxiliary Air Force Squadron contingent to travel to London to assist in the Coronation on 6 May.
Gina has won praise for her role from her Commanding Officer, Squadron Leader Robert Davies of the 2503 Royal Auxiliary Air Force, who has written to County Council Leader Councillor Barry Lewis, calling her "an asset to the squadron".

During National Smile month we’re offering lots of support around how to care for your family’s teeth.
‘Join the Smile Squad’ offers lots of advice and support around how to care for your children’s teeth.
Oral health affects a wide range of things including your child’s confidence, education and self-esteem.
However most oral health problems are preventable if the right tooth care routine is set up from the start.
NHS dental treatment for children is free so take your child for their first appointment as soon as their first baby tooth comes through.

Let's hope we get the weather to enjoy lots of barbecues and picnics this summer – there's nothing quite like al-fresco eating. And we have tips to help you avoid food waste, so saving you money.
- If the British summer lets you down, put unused barbecue food in the freezer for another time
- If salad is looking tired and wilted put it in a bowl of water with a couple of ice-cubes to get it nice and crisp again
- Leftover cooked potatoes make a tasty potato salad when tossed with sliced red or spring onions and mayonnaise
- Just a slice of ham or sausage, a helping of leftover cold meats, a sliced boiled egg, cubes of cheese – these are the sorts of forgotten foods that we end up ignoring because they don’t make a meal in themselves – but combined into a salad they can become a speedy meal solution
- If you’ve got leftover cooked meat, wrap it well and keep it in the fridge – it will be good to use for up to two days or pop it in the freezer for another time
- Add any leftover sausages to an omelette or Spanish tortilla.

Fill in a short survey about travelling in and around the Hope Valley – and you could win a short break!
Do you travel in and around the Hope Valley in Derbyshire? You may be a resident or someone who visits for work, education or leisure purposes. If so, climate campaign group Hope Valley Climate Action wants to hear from you.
Their 'Travelling Light' project has been awarded Department for Transport funding to help make low-carbon travel people’s first choice for journeys in and into Hope Valley.
As part of the project they are running an online survey to find out what journeys Hope Valley residents and visitors to the Valley currently make, might make in the future and how these choices are affected by transport options available. All those completing the survey will be given the chance to win a two-night stay at a 5 Star Award Winning B&B In the Hope Valley. The survey closes on 30 June.
