Why not leave the car at home and travel Derbyshire by bus? New tickets offering unlimited bus travel across the county from £6 a day are now available, thanks to a scheme we've organised.
These new tickets, called Derbyshire Wayfarer, are part of a range of improvements for bus travel in the county, funded by the Government. All bus operators in Derbyshire are offering the new tickets.
You can buy day tickets on all buses, or buy them online and load them onto special Wayfarer smartcard. Several options are available, including weekly and group tickets. You also be able to get Wayfarer cards from libraries and tourist information centres.

Imagine you're a carer who's unable to leave the person you care for to get out and see family or friends. Now imagine how precious a telephone chat would be to you in those circumstances.
The Telephone Befriending Service is looking for volunteers to give support through regular phone calls to carers who may have lost contact with friends and family or might be unable to leave the person they care for.
You don’t need any qualifications – you just need the willingness to listen and be patient. Full training and support will be provided.
The service is run by Derbyshire Carers Association which provides a range of support services on our behalf.

Could you help reach the target of planting a million trees in Derbyshire by 2030 to help boost the environment and tackle the effects of climate change?
We’re calling on residents, landowners and volunteers to join forces to get more trees planted across the county.
If you’ve planted a tree anywhere in Derbyshire since June 2021 it can be counted towards the million trees target. Please add your tree to the online map on the Million Trees website.
If you own land and are interested in planting more trees the county council is offering support and advice. And local businesses and organisations can also get involved by sponsoring or contributing trees, planting on their property, staff volunteering and events.
You can get further details about the project at www.milliontrees.co.uk
You can also sign-up to receive the latest news about the project straight to your inbox.

Stress is something that we all experience at some point. Whether it's a work deadline, financial worries or something more serious.
Low-level stress can sometimes be helpful or motivational but equally too much stress can affect our mood, our body and even our relationships.
There's lots you can try to help reduce your stress levels.
- plan ahead for stressful days or events – planning long journeys or making a list of things to remember can really help
- use time-management techniques to help you take control
- Try talking about your feelings to a friend, family member or health professional.
You can get help and advice around dealing with stress on the NHS website here:Â
If you’re feeling stressed, worried or anxious then you can call the Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline for free, any time day or night, on 0800 028 0077.

Please help to spread the word that residents can mark the King’s Coronation on 6 May by joining The Big Help Out.
Individuals, organisation or businesses can get involved and make a difference to their community.
From checking in on someone who’d like a bit of company or volunteering for a charity, the more of us who join in, the bigger help we will be.

We have launched a short video and a book to celebrate the Walking Together project, a mining memorial trail at Markham Vale Business Park – the former Markham Colliery area. The trail commemorates the 106 miners who lost their lives in the three major disasters at Markham Colliery in 1937, 1938 and 1973 with a sculptural steel figure for each one. Figures have been gradually added over a 10-year journey which was completed in October 2022. The project has been led by the county council, HBD (formerly known as Henry Boot Developments) and Markham Vale Heritage Group volunteers, coordinated by Beam (arts charity) and enabled by many funders, sponsors and supporters.
Artist Stephen Broadbent developed the concept with guidance from the local community. The route symbolises a miner’s journey to the pit - and back home again. Each figure bears a tag with the name of the miner, his age, occupation and the year of the disaster.
The newly launched Walking Together book shares new creative writing, stories and artwork inspired by Markham’s mining heritage and is available to borrow from Derbyshire libraries It is also available as an online downloadable version that can be found on the Story Mine website along with the video.
The Walking Together book and video are supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund who have been involved in the project throughout.
We’ve had lots of applications for our Derbyshire Grants to support Coronation events in Derbyshire. It’s great that so much is going on. We’re unable to accept any more applications for Coronation events now due to the evaluation and processing time required. However the Derbyshire Grants are still open to applications for all sorts of other activities and there’s still £500,000 in the pot.
Derventio Housing Trust was awarded a Derbyshire grant of £19,951 to help their gardening project - Growing Lives - in Ilkeston
We’re asking Derbyshire residents to get in touch if they’re interested in having an electric vehicle charging point installed on the street near their home.
Earlier this month, we agreed to install up to 500 charge points connected to the electricity supply for street lights in areas of the county where residents have no off-road parking.
Now residents are being asked to come forward to help identify where charge points could be installed by registering their interest online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/evsurvey
It’s part of our wider plan to install more vehicle charging points across Derbyshire, working with operators and partners such as district, borough, town and parish councils to fit charge points in public car parks.
