Getting out in the countryside

As the days get longer and warmer weather is on its way, do your thoughts turn to getting out in the great outdoors? If they do, you'll be interested to hear that our Countryside Service has lined up lots of of seasonal events for residents and visitors to enjoy.

These are all detailed in the brochure just published online. You can pick up printed copies at our countryside sites, visitor centres and libraries from mid-March.

Events include self-led trails, specialist workshops, festivals, children’s activities and more. Plus endless opportunities for exploration by foot, horse, bike or boat.

And a date for your diaries – our popular Derbyshire Woodland Festival is back for its 22nd year on Sat 16 and Sun 17 September.

Visitpeakdistrict.com showcases local businesses – including accommodation, attractions, and places to eat and drink – alongside towns and villages, walking and cycling trails, bookable experiences, and upcoming events.


National Careers Week

It's National Careers Week and we're going on the road to showcase our adult care vacancies.

As part of the advice and guidance we offer about career opportunities, learning and employment, we’ll be at this year’s Joined Up Care Careers Derbyshire information events to talk about our adult care vacancies on:

  • Tuesday 14 March at Chesterfield College, Infirmary Road, S41 7NG. 10am-2pm
  • Wednesday 15 March at Derby College Roundhouse, Roundhouse Road, DE24  8JE. 10am-2pm.

The events are open to anyone over 16 to meet employers, apply for job vacancies, take part in application and interview skills workshops, find out about apprenticeships and more. Visit the Joined Up Careers Derbyshire website for further details.

And if you’re looking for careers advice about other professions, we can help with that too.

If you’re aged 19 or over, our qualified careers coaches can help you with CVs, interview skills, application forms, searching for jobs as well as courses and qualifications.

You can contact the careers service in person, across the county or by telephone, video call, text or email. The service is also available for residents aged 18 who are not currently in education, employment or training.


Food Waste – let’s cut it out!

This week is the UK’s third national Food Waste Action Week. Running from 6 – 12 March, it’s the biggest annual food waste reduction campaign and we’re supporting it.

This year’s theme is ‘Win, Don’t Bin’, showing how you can save time and money by making the most of the food you buy.

Wednesday 8 March is No Smoking Day – a great time to quit for good!

Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health and if you're ready to quit for good then there's lots of support on offer.

You can get FREE stop smoking support through Live Life Better Derbyshire. It's a healthy lifestyles services that offers help to Derbyshire residents on a wide range of issues including stopping smoking, losing weight and getting more active.

You can also download the FREE My Quit Route app. Full of useful support to help you stop for good. Download it from the ORCHA website 

Our Live Life Better Derbyshire team will be out and about offering stop smoking advice on Wednesday 8 March. Find a list of venues and more information.

NHS Better Health also has lots of top tips and advice on how to kick the habit for good. 


Priority Services Register

Priority Services Register

The priority services register is a free support service to help people in vulnerable situations. The scheme is offered by your energy supplier. 

If you are eligible, and find it hard to deal with your energy supply, you could get extra help from your energy company.


Staveley Waterside

Exciting plans for development at Staveley Basin could create jobs, boost tourism and encourage more visitors to use the canal.

Plans for the Staveley Waterside development at Staveley Basin have been drawn up as part of the Staveley Town Deal – a £25m Government-funded regeneration programme for the area. We're now seeking planning permission from Chesterfield Borough Council.

Staveley Waterside is one of three projects we are leading as part of the Staveley Town Deal which includes 11 projects in total.
