We agree budget and one of the lowest council tax rises

County Hall

We have set our budget for the year ahead and agreed a council tax rise of 3.75% – one of the lowest increases in the country.

At a meeting of Full Council on 15 February, we set our net budget for 2023-24 at £678.2 million and agreed the council tax rise which is below the maximum 5% limit set by government and predicted to be among the lowest rises in the country.

Pay less to travel by bus

bus passengers

Do you travel by bus for work, shopping or to medical appointments? If so, you could benefit from a £2 cap on fares until the end March.

Millions of passengers will save money on single bus journeys, backed up by £60m from the Department for Transport.

During the pandemic bus passenger numbers dropped significantly and figures show usage has not returned to pre-pandemic levels.

So, ensuring you and your family can access affordable bus fares will hopefully tempt you to choose buses for local journeys.

This also helps to reduce carbon emissions. The scheme's estimated to take at least two million car journeys off the roads across the country, cutting congestion and pollution for everyone.

Help with transport to some health appointments

Grab a cab

Did you know there is free transport available to get you to certain routine health appointments?

We're running a scheme offering free transport to a variety of routine health appointments including vaccination appointments and some screening programmes.

The Grab a Cab project is running until 31 March 2023. The offer is open to all ages and is not means tested so you do not need to be receiving benefits to be eligible.

Do you have a prepayment energy meter?

Prepayment meter

Lots of people on traditional prepayment energy meters are missing out on hundreds of pounds worth of energy support – and time is running out.

A significant proportion of Energy Bill Support Scheme vouchers – worth £400 in total – that have been sent by energy companies to prepayment meter households have not been redeemed yet.

If your supplier has your correct details, they should have already let you know how you’ll get your discount, which will be either through vouchers or a credit directly to your smart prepayment meter.

If you have a traditional prepayment meter then you will get discount vouchers which you will need to redeem at a top up point. Vouchers are usually valid for three months – however, all Energy Bill Support Scheme vouchers will have expired by 30 June 2023 and you will not be able to use them after this date.
